Made a mistake staking can anyone advise pls

Hi guys,Hope I’m posted in the right forum,

I’ve been staking 2 thousand ICP for a few years now & the other week the price was good so I bought again for the first time in a while

I sent the tokens from the exchange to my ICP account and the mistake I made was instead of going to my main neuron and ‘increasing stake’ I mistakenly just pressed ‘stake ICP’ which just created a new neuron with the 50 ICP tokens I’d just bought.

Seeing the obvious mistake I just merged the 2 neurons and the 50 tokens where merged into my main account no problem

but the very next day a new neuron was spawned or whatever caused it to appear with no ICP tokens in it but all my rewards/maturity from my main neuron which is around 1.18 per day are now going directly into this second neuron

I again merged them and the next day the same new neuron all maturity ?

I’ve tried to fix it unchecking auto stake , unfollowing vote delegations ect I dont know what it could be and to be honest it seems to have a mind of its own anyway pls see photo below which is what I get each day… new neuron no icp tokens but all rewards from main account

Here’s probably what happened:

  • Your original neuron is neuron A. I has been actively voting regularly and accumulating rewards.
  • You accidentally created the smaller neuron B
  • You merged A -> B instead of B -> A
  • After merging, neuron A has 0 stake, 0 maturity, therefore NNS dapp hides it
  • The next day the voting period for some proposal(s) ends, therefore rewards are distributed
  • Neuron A has voted on that proposal (e.g. 1 day before you merged), and therefore receives rewards
  • Neuron A no longer has 0 maturity, therefore NNS dapp no longer hides this neuron

Once neuron A no longer receives voting rewards it will not re-appear again (even though it still exists with 0 stake/maturity). This will likely be ~4 days after you stop autostaking maturity.

Side note: please check that neuron B is following/voting as you wish to

Can you tell me in layman’s terms to correct steps I need to take to get back to normal please

So right now I still have to two neurons like in the photo I have unchecked auto stake on both neurons

Could you tell me what I need to do please

Short version: after unchecking autostake wait 4 days. Then you can merge a final time and the neuron should not reappear anymore. When merging neurons, check in the preview that the resulting neuron has the same neuron id as the larger one (so you’re merging the small one into the large one, not the other way around)

Uncheck autostske from both neurons

Do I need to unfollow vote delegation on my main neuron ?

And I can see now that it actually does say ‘the order of selection matters’ gen merging neurons ! So just to be sure do I highlight the top neuron first or the bottom ?

You want to merge the small one into the large one, so the one with 0 ICP should be on top.

You can keep following other neurons on both
