Alice DAO - How it works

Greetings Alice DAO members. It appears somewhere around 200 BOB users like you got into Alice and during launch were given 2 neurons locked in for 1 and 2 days.

Let’s see the current Alice SNS config and try to explain how things work:

Max Dissolve Delay Bonus 900 %
Max Age for Age Bonus 1 year, 54 days
Max Age Bonus 400 %
Reward Rate 6.9% to 4.2% over 3 years, 182 days
Max Dissolve Delay 8 years

Voting power is based on these settings, which will look like this. Rewards are given based on voting power.

We’ve analyzed the neurons, and here is what things look like:

Notice how users with 24.40% of the tokens have less than 2% of the voting power.

Users without knowledge of the intricacies of SNS DAO parameters (which like 5 people around can understand) are very likely going to just keep their default neuron settings and just vote. That’s what any user would expect to get after joining a DAO. In all other DAOs, they will have a good amount of voting power. With NTN DAO, it won’t matter if someone staked for 1mo or 6mo; all get equal voting power. It’s the bonuses configuration that makes the Alice DAO anti-retail investors.

We are sorry your first IC experience after BOB was getting into a DAO that doesn’t want you to have any meaningful voting power or voting rewards. It’s not what we stand for as an ecosystem.

This configuration gives you the following options:

  1. Keep a neuron and think you are voting, where your votes don’t count at all, and you get almost no voting rewards.
  2. Unstake and get your tokens bought. Launch rate was 0.003332 ICP, the rate now is 0,0145 ICP
  3. Stake for 8 years where your votes matter.

Notice - That’s NOT how the SNS framework works. All other SNS DAOs don’t have such a misfortune configuration. What you’ve got set by your current leadership appears to be against decentralization and any kind of democracy.

It appears this was set by W.e.n.z.e.l, and he put his stamp of approval.

He is also trying to stop proposals attempting to reduce voting power bonuses and admits that he was part of engineering this configuration.

Let’s take option (3) and see what it means.

If you lock ALICE tokens for 8 years and vote on all proposals over time, with the reward rate, you will most probably get back 100% of your ALICE through maturity in 11 years, and in 22 years, you will get double. Or you can spend 8y waiting for it to dissolve.

With this option, users will be reaping the rewards just around the time some get into a nursing home.

8y lock makes sense when rewards are higher and the project is long term - like ICP.

So, how did new users in the IC end up with the only NOT insane option for them being “Exit DAO”, and who in their right mind is staking for 8y and why?

It appears the current Alice leadership is involved in Node providers, WTN, and Alice. The way they can use Alice is to support their other income channels, from which normal Alice DAO members staking for 8y will get nothing. So all points to - they aren’t after the voting rewards in Alice, just the power to control it. One Alice update can return back the old Bob algorithm and congest the IC network. Or it could be something else equally bad. Given their track record of messing WTN up and getting the voting power of the other half of the DAO instead of putting a proportional representation voting system, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting to get something out of Alice under their regime.

Luckily, you have another whale who cares about the IC and its users, is cleaning up this mess, and is paying out of his pocket to do that, by buying enough Alice to make sure its current leadership won’t be in control.

Changing the parameters to a 25% age bonus and a max dissolve delay of 100% (This is what other SNSes use) will give you some voting power. But now that you don’t have any, it’s hard to get that proposal accepted.

I agree with the unfortunate nature of how the SNS parameters for ALICE were changed and I have discussed it extensively, but your are completely wrong about me having a role in it. I don’t have time to give a full explanation right now, but I will certainly respond later today and provide plenty of cross posts about the issue of being able to change SNS parameters with only 50% majority. I have raised the issue to DFINITY multiple times as a result of what I observed with ALICE and so far they have felt the importance of the Manage Nervous System Parameters proposal type does not rise to the level of a critical proposal. Of course, @borovan has already weaponized the fact that you can change SNS parameters with way less than 50% majority to take over other SNS projects and is currently trying to do the same with ALICE, but so far it isn’t working. Now I see @infu is trying to spin the data to make me look like a bad actor, but I’ll be happy to explain.

Since it appears that the ALICE SNS is a takeover target for no apparent reason, I’ll take this opportunity to remind folks that the CodeGov ALICE neuron is a viable option to follow if needed. The ALICE SNS is showing no signs of weakness given that we have rejected all proposals. Every vote is very important and we need to keep voter turnout at very high levels. Please perform your own due diligence if you intend to vote for yourself. Be aware that there have been a lot of details presented in the proposals that are false or misleading. Please be careful with your vote and don’t be fooled into thinking the leading side is the right answer in the middle of the voting period.

CodeGov ALICE Neuron

If your don’t have the time or energy to perform proper due diligence on ALICE proposals before you vote, then please consider setting your neuron to follow the CodeGov ALICE neuron. We have a team of people who care a lot about the ALICE SNS and are willing to evaluate each proposal properly. You can learn more on our website at codegov.org.

CodeGov ALICE neuron: 684b658cff3dd5d92098e41ff6db53ad3bea097dd9c3d09313bc24c699d64248

You can set the CodeGov neuron as a Followee for any proposal topic you choose, but the proposal topics below are the most important.

All non-critical topics
Manage nervous system parameters
Set topics for custom proposals
Transfer SNS treasury funds (critical)
Mint SNS tokens (critical)
Deregister Dapp Canisters (critical)

The CodeGov neuron vote is typically triggered based on consensus of our Followees and they need time to evaluate and vote on each proposal. Hence, the CodeGov vote is not typically cast immediately. Please be patient as we properly evaluate proposals.

What are your plans with Bob?

Hey @infu will you please clarify these two statements so I know how to properly respond to your accusations? What exactly makes you think that I “set” anything for the ALICE SNS? Please provide links to your claims that I was “part of engineering the configuration” related to voting power bonuses. I’d like to better understand your accusations and your evidence. Also, what does the screen capture of my announcement to create a known neuron for ALICE have to do with these concerns that you have raised? What is it that you believe the post proves and why did you include it here? I’m providing a link below so people can see the full post and context. Like I said, I have no issue providing an explanation. However, I would appreciate if you would take a more diplomatic and civilized approach to this topic.

I need you to clarify this statement further as well. I assume you are calling me “Alice leadership” since you listed node providers, WTN, and Alice and the actual leader for ALICE is not known to be involved in WTN or node providers. I wouldn’t call myself Alice leadership, so it’s not clear what you mean. Also, why are you making a claim that I can use Alice to support other income channels? What do I get from Alice that others do not also get? I’d appreciate if you can provide an explanation, preferably with some kind of evidence.

What do you mean by “messing WTN up”? Exactly how did I do that?

This is false. Everyone who is staked with Alice is getting the voting power that is proportional to the SNS parameters that were proposed by Robert and adopted by the SNS. The parameters that you have proposed of 25% age bonus and 100% max dissolve delay bonus would also provide all Alice stakers with voting power, but it would do so at an advantage to @borovan (Adam), who is clearly trying to take over the ALICE SNS. The neurons that Adam owns are new relative to the neurons that were created at SNS launch, so you would effectively be reducing the voting power of established neurons in favor of boosting Adam’s giant neurons.

If Adam wants to take over ALICE, then he has every right to buy all the tokens he can afford and to convince people in the community to follow him, but in my opinion we should not be messing with the SNS parameters in order to make it easier for him to gain control. Instead, he should have to buy more tokens and/or convince more people to follow him. Personally, before I’m willing to vote to adopt any proposal that Adam submits, I’d like to hear his plan for the SNS. Perhaps if he reveals why he is interested, then it would be easier to convince more people to follow his lead. So far we have no information about why he is interested in Alice, but we do have a bunch of thoughtless proposals that have all been resoundly rejected.

In your Alice proposal from yesterday, you pointed out that you were chatting with him about it. You are one of the 5 people who will understand how these settings work.

Hey ALICE community. This is Wenzel Bartlett from the CodeGov ALICE neuron.

My recommendation is that we reject proposal 30. It is important to understand the history of how we arrived at the current fee. The transaction fee was set to 5 ALICE to ensure that the ALICE token is deflationary overall. Robert proposed this transaction fee in proposal 9, which came after he recommended the increase in the governance rewards and the max dissolve delay to incentivize long-term staking.

Your response is 2h 16m later 2025-01-07T21:23:36.594Z

Somehow, you found out about the post, checked all the yaml config options, thought about them, discussed it with the CodeGov team, they checked it, agreed, and you wrote your lengthy post. Just under 2h and 16m.
Adding your stamp of approval and voting in the NNS accept on this weird anti-decentralization setup. On top of that, offering users to follow your neuron.

And now being against fixing it..

A ‘dot fun’ project should have a max 6-month lock time, 25% age bonus, and a max dissolve delay of 100%. (Like other DAOs) You accepted something that is definitely not fun and normal users wouldn’t find - a very good offer to go for any meaningful voting power. This isn’t the particle accelerator, it’s “alice dot fun”. The whole configuration is made to discourage people from locking for max dissolve delay, because the rewards are too low to make sense. You accepted that pretty fast.

Not to mention, during the last month, you have been trying to defend all that is wrong in the ecosystem, employing spam and confusion to make sure nobody has the time to read about these problems. [Proposal to upgrade WaterNeuron voting system]

So because you obviously can not control it, it now means he is bad?:joy:

I hope there are some decent people out there, who haven’t realized yet all he has touched magically turned charrettes into pumpkins. The faster we get rid of the nonsense, the healthier the forums will be and we can get back to actual decentralization and building cool things.
