NNS log in not working properly

I am a privacy focused linux/grapheneOS user and at the moment with the Internet Identity 2.0 upgrade I have no way to access my neuron.

First off it won’t let me use my phone as a passkey. Second, when caffeine launched I managed to use the protonpass add-on as a side solution to set up and use an 2.0 internet identity to access caffeine. However when I try to do the same thing for the NNS, since 2.0 is now mandatory there as well, it never pops up to request my protonpass passkey, and instead just directly shows the qr code popup.

Caffeine log in oddly enough still works as before, as does logging in to id.ai to manage the identity itself. So there’s definitely something wrong with the NNS II 2.0 setup and not something wrong on my end.

Edit: to be clear, that original caffeine identity is obviously a different one from the one that I upgraded today. Today I upgraded my original 1.0 identity to 2.0, set up another protonpass passkey and with that one I can also access caffeine as well as id.ai, while I cannot access the NNS this way. So it’s not a matter of not having upgraded yet.

Did you try different browser? If even that dont work, than use phone instead. As everything works well on windows, you could make windows boot on usb stick just a backup case if need to get into NNS.

So far we seen problems with YubiKey, Mac OS and Linux/GrapheneOS (protonpass).

Yes, tried different browsers. The protonpass popup never showed for the nns on both chrome and brave.

As for windows, the only way I’d access my wallet on windows is to liquidate everything and never have anything to do with ICP ever again because of the fact that they forced me to use windows to access my funds. So no, that’s unfortunately (for now) not an option.

Why not use google login? You can add google login, get into NNS, do your stuff and than remove it again. It is easy fix until proton works again.

Linking my wallet to a google account would be worse privacy-wise than using windows. Users don’t need to accomodate Dfinity, Dfinity needs to accomodate users. And crypto and linux users go hand in hand. If they keep alienating us, they’ll find out what happens soon enough.

One last thing, you can look if popups are blocked by default. I remember i had problems with some wallet that didnt let me log in and later found out that for some reason popup was blocked.

Shouldn’t be that, otherwise I wouldnt get the popup for logging in to caffeine or id.ai either. Plus wouldnt get the qr popup on the nns either. Both of which I get without issue.

Browse in Incognito mode? Might help?

We’re investigating reported issues with proton pass. A recommended workaround would be either adding another non proton pass passkey or installing the proton pass app on your phone and using the browser’s QR code phone flow in your browser authentication prompt.

Could you please confirm that both identities (Caffeine specific and upgraded) work on the id.ai domain? This information would help us narrow down the issue and look for possible improvements and fixes.

Protonpass app on my phone just gives a red error at the bottom ‘Code not recognized - Retry’. Both when using the one I already set up, as for when I’m trying to add a new one to my identity.
As for other keys, nothing works. Can’t use my phone since it’s internet identity’s standard login mechanism has always been incompatible with grapheneOS, and even a virtual passkey that used to work with 1.0 doesnt work with 2.0.

And yes, I can confirm the protonpass keys of both identities work on both the id.ai domain as well as on caffeine.ai.

Highly appreciate these details, it’s really helpful to know the issues you’re experiencing are specific to the domain name.

We’ll be switching the NNS to the id.ai domain in the coming days, based on the details you’ve shared, this should resolve the authentication issues. Meanwhile we’ll continue looking into ways to improve compatibility with various passkey managers for applications that can’t make (or haven’t yet made) the switch to the new id.ai domain.
