Proposal to create an SNS DAO for SNS1

Hi everyone,

I’d like to kick off a community discussion on deploying a new SNS‑1 instance governed by the NNS, with launch parameters identical to the original SNS‑1.

Important note: This proposal does not alter or take over the existing Dragginz canisters. The original deployment will remain unchanged. Critically, Dragginz is merely a re‑branded name for the old SNS‑1 canister set and does not represent the symbolic legacy of SNS‑1 itself. SNS‑1 carries its own distinct historical meaning for the Internet Computer ecosystem, separate from the Dragginz‑branded legacy instance.

Background

The original SNS‑1 launched as a “blank canvas” experimental DAO, the very first SNS ever deployed on mainnet. Upon completion of its decentralization swap, full control was handed over to the community. Over time, on‑chain governance activity of that old instance dropped significantly, and it was later rebranded under the name Dragginz.

While the old canisters now operate under the Dragginz name, this rebranding does not absorb or embody SNS‑1’s original historical and symbolic significance. As the pioneering SNS deployment, SNS‑1 stands on its own as an important milestone for the whole Internet Computer ecosystem. This thread explores an alternative revival path: spinning up a fresh, NNS‑governed SNS‑1 instance that replicates all genesis settings of the original SNS‑1, to properly carry forward SNS‑1’s intended legacy.

Why explore this revival path

  • It reuses battle‑tested tokenomics and governance configurations inherited directly from the original SNS‑1 genesis.
  • The founding vision was for the community to shape its trajectory and build real utility on top of this blank‑canvas foundation — a vision that was never fully realized within the Dragginz‑named old instance.
  • The SNS framework has matured greatly across 2025‑2026, bringing better tooling, accumulated operational experience, and established best practices.
  • A successful reboot of this NNS‑controlled SNS‑1 can serve as a reference blueprint for other low‑activity SNS DAOs across the ecosystem, honoring SNS‑1’s milestone status.

Possible directions (open‑ended for community input)

‑ Reignite governance participation and improve voter turnout for the new SNS‑1 instance.
‑ Explore new use‑cases, or onboard existing community projects under the new SNS‑1’s governance scope.
‑ Discuss rebranding options, treasury strategies, and launching new initiatives through on‑chain proposals.
‑ Carry out technical maintenance and canister upgrades for the newly deployed SNS‑1 instance.
‑ Any other suggestions or perspectives brought forward by the community.

Call to action

‑ Original SNS‑1 / Dragginz token holders and neuron owners: Would you support exploring this reboot — a new NNS‑governed SNS‑1 instance using the original genesis launch parameters, to carry forward SNS‑1’s historical legacy?
‑ Developers and builders: What projects or concepts would you like to propose within this new DAO?
‑ Community contributors: Who is willing to assist with next‑step work such as proposal drafting and community outreach?

I am ready to help coordinate initial discussions, draft motion proposals, and support concrete next steps that secure broad community consensus.

Looking forward to your thoughts, feedback and ideas!

We have sns1 at home, it’s called sneed dao and there’s even people who have built app and registered them to the blank slate.

Yes SNS-1 must be revived. Currently the controllers of the canister have abandoned the project and SNS after taking over the DAO

I don’t have a horse in this race, mates.

Let me know how it all turns out.

Let’s try to keep everything above the belt.

Good luck.

“sns1 is sns1, sneed is sneed, the meanings of these two are different. Sneed is great, but sns1 has extraordinary symbolic significance.”

Dear Community,

Almost one year before the writing of this letter, SNS-1 introduced a vision for a fully on-chain, community-driven Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). As a blank canvas provided by the DFINITY Foundation, the community was asked to be the engineer of this first true web3 DAO — its fate steered by a collective spirit. However, on June 11th, 2023, a new chapter for SNS-1 unfolded as the Dragginz team acquired it for their web3 MMO. While we may disagree with the centralizing of the Dragginz governance system, we are rooting for the success of Dragginz, like the rest of the ICP community. Yet, as the final chapter of SNS-1 being a decentralized blank canvas concluded, a group of early SNS-1 community members gathered to resurrect the original vision of SNS-1.

SNEED is here to carry on the torch from the SNS-1, to form a DAO owned and led by the ICP community, for the benefit of the ICP community. The foundation of SNEED rests on five pillars: Security, Non-inflation, Eco-friendliness, Efficiency, and Decentralization, which are made possible by the technology of the Internet Computer Protocol. The SNEED token will serve as the community token of the DAO and the linchpin of the ICP community, and future communities to join SNEED.

The general premise of SNEED is to act as a store of value, leveraging deflationary token mechanisms. It seeks to provide a secure and non-inflationary environment for the SNEED DAO, completely decentralized. Community members can create proposals for using funds from the DAO, further expanding the ecosystem or hold the community token as a store of value.

Amidst a rapidly evolving digital landscape, the journey ahead is filled with opportunity. Together, as a community, we have the potential to pioneer, co-create and co-evolve a decentralized digital realm that resonates with the core ideal of web3 — owned, and controlled by the community.

Mr. Sneed is asking You, the Community of SNEED users, to take active part in the future of SNEED. Provide liquidity, develop dApps using SNEED as a token, vote on proposals, create memes, improve the design of SNEED — anything, and everything that takes SNEED to the next stage on its pursuit of the decentralized ideals of web3.

This is the vision of SNEED.

Best regards,
Mr. Sneed

you can’t revive sns-1 because it means service nervous system #1. you can’t have a first, twice. just make a new blank canvas dao if you wish, and stand on your own merit.

Actually you can, using NNS and removing the bad actors as Canister controllers and restoring the state

It is practically possible, not just theoretically.

DKP Founders have already stated that they want to see the SNS destroyed

Move on and look ahead, man. Quit having those ‘good old days’ fantasies all the time.

It’s time to make SNS and ICP Defi great again, starting with SNS1

Previous SNS1 sales parameters:

3141 or 31.4% of the total supply of tokens are proposed to be distributed via an SNS decentralization sale. The sale will start when this proposal is accepted and is scheduled to conclude end of day Friday 9th Dec AoE. If the maximum number of ICP configured below is raised before that date the sale will conclude earlier.

Sale participation parameters

  • Min participation: 0.1 ICP
  • Max participation: 1 ICP
  • Max ICP to be raised: 3141
  • Min ICP to be raised: 50
  • Min participants: 50

Based on previous sales parameters, a portion of the SNS1 airdroped to the ICP ecosystem. I suggest that the total token supply (10,000) participate fully in this Decentralization Sale:

the total supply of tokens are proposed to be distributed via an SNS decentralization sale.

Sale participation parameters

  • Min participation: 0.1 ICP
  • Max participation: 1 ICP
  • Max ICP to be raised: 10000
  • Min ICP to be raised: 50
  • Min participants: 50

What about your suggestions? @Lorimer @bjoern @rbirkner @borovan4000

Is there a way to blackhole SNS token canister. As we seen from few SNS, they minted more tokens to keep full control over them.

What will collected funds be used, to pay ghost devs, or airdrop it to insiders?

Idea is interesting, but sooner or later it will be renamed to some other project. What then, Launch no 3 of SNS1?

cool but that still wouldn’t make you the first. it would just be an obviously transparent attempt at mooching prestige, and destroy the credibility of the nns. make your own dao (or join sneed).

huh, whats a sneed? whos destroying what? the only thing that’s destroyed here on ICP is my portfolio

Yes, the control of funds and SNS token canister is handed over to NNS, achieving complete decentralization. Each person is limited to purchasing 1 SNS1. There are no developers, no insiders, and everything is decentralized

I am just here to initiate proposals (just like dfinity,Anyone can), I am not the person in charge, nor a developer. I am just a member of the community

A sneed is actually governance token on the service nervous system of the sns dao “sneed” which is the natural successor to sns 1. Back in the day, sns1 was colloquially referred to as sneeds.

Sneed dao offers its governance cansiter up to developers whom would like to decentralize control. Those developers can keep a say in the governance of those apps via participating in dao governance.

A lot of people portfolios are currently in what is known as “the red” but if I can be frank, this is alien tech with a high barrier for entry. As that entry barrier decreases as the network, cloud engines and the defi enviornents grow maybe our portfolios will bootstrap themselves up.

I support the spirit of what you’re proposing, but not without 2 solutions in place first.

  1. The SNS canisters that would be spawned would need to have a sustainable and automated flow of cycles to keep them running without any privileged/burdened member of the community having to intervene.
  2. Staking the SNS token would need to generate rewards for the staker. Basic maturity only meets this criteria if there is actually tangible utility in the token (which in this case there wouldn’t be, in any reliable sense).

One thing I’m trying to achieve with Jupiter Faucet is making it very simple to deliver on both of these factors. An SNS launch would just need to raise enough as part of the launch to cover perpetual cycles top-ups, and as a side effect age bonus maturity then automatically converts to a high yield liquid staking coin that can be rewarded to stakers (other stuff in the works relating to this too).

I’ll be wrapping up and launching Jupiter Faucet as an SNS soon. I’m then planning to set up a template solution for anyone who would like to use it in the way described above to launch all sorts of sustainable community-driven SNSs.

Thank you very much for your suggestion! I’ve noticed that the SNS cycles are mainly consumed by the token canister, so I plan to personally top up the SNS‑1 related canisters first, and then switch to having the SNS treasury handle the recharges after your application goes live.

Regarding staking rewards, as I mentioned earlier, I will use the default parameters from the old SNS‑1 and try not to modify them.Regarding staking rewards, as I mentioned earlier, I will use the default parameters from the old SNS‑1 and try not to modify them.

im confused. You’re literally describing sneed dao. What do you think you will accomplish by issuing a token named sns1. Wouldn’t it be easier to just propose to change sneeds icrc ledger name to “sns1”
