Paws Arena aims to be one of the top games on the Internet Computer. It is one of the pioneering NFT projects on the Internet Computer (ICP), launching in December 2021. During the past few years we went from a simple NFT collection to building a dynamic game where players can engage in multiple games, participate in challenges and earn rewards through our innovative partnership with BoomDao (another project in our ecosystem).

Although anyone can play Paws Arena for free, owning an ICKitty NFT will soon unlock exclusive advantages that will enhance gameplay. We are committed to delivering value to our community, consistently meeting our promises, and creating an engaging experience where every player likes to return.

How is it Built

Paws Arena is a blockchain-based PvP game developed on the Internet Computer (ICP), designed for seamless on-chain gameplay, interoperability, and a decentralized gaming experience. Here’s a breakdown of the architecture, tools, and design choices that power Paws Arena:

Architecture and Core Components

ICP Canisters

  • Motoko Canisters: The backend logic for Paws Arena is implemented in Motoko, the native language for the Internet Computer, offering seamless performance for smart contract operations.

  • BoomDao’s World Canister: We integrate with BoomDao’s world canister to enable cross-game challenges and reward systems. This connection allows interoperability, creating a larger GameFi environment where achievements in one game can carry over to others.

Game Client and Front-End

  • Unity: The game client is built using Unity, providing a high-quality visual and interactive experience. Unity enables us to deliver a polished PvP gameplay similar to classic titles like “Worms”, with added blockchain functionalities.

  • Front-End Canister Hosting: The front-end canister on ICP hosts the Unity client, making the game fully accessible through a browser without downloads or installations. This ensures Paws Arena is available globally, directly on the blockchain.

Identity and Wallet Integration

  • NFID: For identity and wallet management, Paws Arena utilizes NFID, an identity provider for the Internet Computer. NFID allows players to securely connect their wallets in order to detect their assets in-game.

NFT Integration

  • ICKitties NFTs: The game incorporates ICKitties NFTs, which will grant exclusive benefits, such as: earning better rewards, participating in tournaments, joining a guild, wearing crafter items, etc… Players can switch between multiple ICKitties for consecutive matches, therefore skipping the 30 minute HP regeneration times.

Go-To-Market Strategy

Paws Arena is uniquely positioned to attract both blockchain enthusiasts and traditional gamers through a combination of targeted marketing, strategic partnerships and community engagement. Our approach is designed to create strong interest, drive new player adoption, and build a thriving community on the Internet Computer ecosystem.

1. Engaging the Blockchain and Gaming Communities

  • Leverage ICP and DFINITY Networks: We’ll tap into existing ICP communities, introducing Paws Arena as an innovative, on-chain gaming experience that demonstrates the capabilities of Web3 technology. Targeting OpenChat, Telegram and Discord channels within the ICP space will allow us to reach those already present in the crypto sphere.

  • Cross-Promotion with BoomDao: Partnering with BoomDao allows us to cross-promote Paws Arena within the GameFi environment. By supporting cross-game challenges and shared rewards through BoomDao’s world canister, we provide players with a reason to engage with multiple titles, creating an integrated ecosystem that encourages retention and multi-game exploration.

  • Live Tournament: We will run live tournaments with money prizes for the top players. We’ll reach out to the biggest ICP KOLs on Youtube / X to livestream Paws Arena tournaments on their channels. This will bring players and viewers together in one of the biggest events on ICP so far.

2. Targeted Partnerships and Influencer Campaigns

  • NFT Collaborations: Collaborating with other ICP-based NFT projects offers mutual exposure, especially among users already engaged with NFTs on the blockchain. This can include co-hosted events, exclusive NFTs, and airdrops.

  • Influencer Marketing: Partnering with key KOLs in both blockchain and gaming spaces can extend our reach. Targeting influencers who cover blockchain gaming and NFTs can introduce Paws Arena to relevant audiences. We’ll also consider micro-influencers in niche communities to build a genuine and dedicated player base.

3. Building and Rewarding the Community

  • Play-to-Earn Incentives: To attract players interested in earning rewards, we’ll emphasize the unique play-to-earn model of Paws Arena, highlighting how achievements within the game translate into real benefits. Reward programs and challenge-based incentives across BoomDao will engage players and encourage them to return regularly.

  • Community-Driven Development and Governance: Being open-source, Paws Arena can attract developers interested in contributing and collaborating. We’ll invite community feedback on gameplay features, introduce governance for key decisions, and encourage active participation to foster a strong player-developer relationship.

Monetization

Paws Arena is designed with both sustainability and community value in mind. While the game is accessible for free, our monetization strategy includes multiple revenue streams, focusing on providing players with valuable in-game assets and experiences. Here’s how we plan to monetize our game:

NFT Sales and Marketplace Transactions

  • ICKitty NFTs: Players benefit from owning icKitty NFTs, which provide in-game advantages, such as skipping the health regeneration cooldown. These NFTs will continue to be a key revenue source, with occasional exclusive drops, special editions, and limited-time offers that increase value for both new and current players.

  • Private Marketplace Fees: Our private marketplace, where players can trade crafted items, icKitty NFTs, and other in-game assets, will include a small transaction fee. This creates an ongoing revenue stream as players engage in the marketplace and trade assets with each other.

Sponsored Tournaments and Partnerships

  • Hosting sponsored tournaments, seasonal events, and collaborative events with other ICP projects or GameFi titles can offer another revenue stream. These events would bring additional excitement and engagement while creating new brand partnerships, creating mutually beneficial opportunities within the ecosystem.

Through a combination of NFT marketplace transactions and sponsored events, Paws Arena is planning to generate revenue sustainably while supporting player value and active community involvement. Our goal is to build a player-driven ecosystem that rewards both time and investment, reinforcing Paws Arena’s position in the Web3 GameFi landscape.

Status of the Project

Paws Arena has made significant progress since its inception as an OG NFT collection on the Internet Computer blockchain in December 2021. Here’s where we stand:

  • Fully Functional PvP Game: The core gameplay is live, offering a fully operational PvP experience where players can engage in online matches, friendly games, and leaderboard competitions.

  • Integration with BoomDao: Paws Arena is integrated with BoomDao’s world canister, enabling cross-game functionality and reward-based challenges.

  • ICKitty NFT Utility: Our ICKitty NFTs are live and provide tangible in-game benefits, such as bypassing health regeneration wait times. NFT owners can play more frequently, increasing both engagement and retention.

  • On-Chain Marketplace (Early Stage): A private marketplace for trading in-game items and NFTs has been developed and is in its early stages. We’re actively working on refining and expanding the marketplace to enhance player-driven economy features.

  1. Community and User Engagement

  • Growing Player Base: Since launching our playable version, Paws Arena has attracted a diverse community.

  • Cross-Game Participation: Through our collaboration with BoomDao, we’ve seen increased engagement from players who are participating in challenges, further building our reputation within the ICP ecosystem.

  1. Open-Source Contributions and Community Support
  • As an open-source project sponsored by DFINITY, Paws Arena has welcomed contributions from developers interested in blockchain gaming. Our commitment to transparency and open-source collaboration has led to a stronger community and more technical advancements.

Future Plans

At Paws Arena, our vision doesn’t stop at just a game; we’re working to grow the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem by attracting new users and creating rewarding experiences for our players. Here’s what we’re focusing on for the future:

Expanding the ICP Community: Our goal is to introduce more people to the ICP ecosystem through engaging gameplay and exclusive benefits, making Paws Arena an entry point into the world of blockchain gaming on ICP. By growing our player base, we aim to create a larger, more vibrant community on the Internet Computer.

  2. Rewarding Player Investment: We believe in rewarding players. Through new challenges, enhanced rewards, and deeper integrations with BoomDao’s GameFi environment, we aim to create a sustainable ecosystem where player dedication is recognized and rewarded.

  3. Live Tournaments: Live Tournaments can build excitement in the ICP ecosystem and encourage people to take part. Money or NFT prizes will definitely keep players engaged.

  4. Crafting Items: Players will have the possibility to craft items and mint them as NFTs directly to their wallets. These items can be equipped on the players’ icKitties or sold on our marketplace.

  5. Marketplace Enhancements: Continuing to build a more robust and user-friendly marketplace to support item trading.

  6. Governance Preparations: Exploring the possibility of implementing an SNS-based governance model, giving our community a direct role in guiding future developments.
