Why Choose ToyoWorld?

With ToyoWorld, we’re redefining the gaming landscape by tackling the challenges present in traditional Web2 gaming. As the industry evolves, many games face significant issues. ToyoWorld provides innovative solutions and a fresh vision for Free2Play gaming models.

The Web3 Advantage

Our vision for ToyoWorld is centered on player ownership. In the Web2 gaming world, the lack of true ownership has long been a contentious issue. Many “live service” games eventually shut down, taking player inventories and achievements with them—leaving players with nothing to show for their investment.

On the Internet Computer, players can retain ownership of their in-game assets through tokenization. This not only makes assets tradable among players but also opens new monetization opportunities for developers. Players can choose to burn tokens or spend ICP or other SNS tokens to unlock unique items and access hidden areas—all while maintaining full control over their assets. This player-centric approach is a cornerstone of ToyoWorld.

How We Built It

ToyoWorld is developed using Unity and WebGL. The game’s framework is constructed in Unity, seamlessly connected to the Internet Computer via BoomDaos World Engine. This integration allows for the verification of player identities, data saving, token distribution, and other blockchain-related actions. Our game logic is closely tied to the World Canister, tracking in-game events to prevent tampering and ensure fair play.

Why Choose ICP?

The Internet Computer offers technical advantages that are particularly beneficial for a turn-based battle game like ToyoWorld. Call times can easily be concealed within animations, turn timers, and text displays, enhancing the overall player experience.

We’ve harnessed this unique advantage to create the first-ever hidden autosave system on ICP. Player data is automatically saved to the World Canister after key events, ensuring a smooth gameplay experience. This design not only maintains the flow of the game but also allows us to track the game logic loop on-chain, resulting in a tamper-proof environment. The World Engine Canister plays a crucial role in this functionality.

Additionally, ICP provides unique features, such as the reverse gas fee model, which significantly enhances the player experience.

The Pet Battle Genre

We believe our genre is poised to thrive not just in the Web3 space but also within the broader gaming industry. Many players are familiar with classic titles like Pokémon, and recent trends indicate a strong demand for these experiences. In 2023, an open-world pet battler called PalWorld became the biggest game ever released on Steam, underscoring the genre’s enduring appeal.

With ToyoWorld, we aim to build on the beloved gameplay loop that players cherish while addressing the challenges faced in legacy gaming.

Market Strategy

Our market strategy prioritizes user acquisition to foster a thriving player base for ToyoWorld, resulting in an active secondary market and increased adoption of the ICP ecosystem.

We execute this strategy through a three-step process:

  1. Maintain a strong social media presence.
  2. Lower barriers to entry.
  3. Onboard users through in-game initiatives and sustain interest with ongoing content updates.

Our seasonal content update system ensures that players always have something new to look forward to, encouraging new user adoption while maintaining player interest over time—crucial for any live-service game.

We’re also expanding our presence on platforms like TikTok and YouTube, and exploring ideas for a traditional Web2 ToyoWorld spin-off mini-game to funnel players into the main Web3 experience, offering incentives and rewards for progress made in the mini-game.

Monetization

As a Web3 game, ToyoWorld can adopt a unique approach to monetization. We plan to take existing popular Web2 trends, like battle passes, and reimagine them through a Web3 lens. The tokenization of assets allows us to reward players who go the extra mile by offering in-game assets they can keep, trade, and utilize as they wish. We aim to focus on monetization as one of our three core pillars this coming year, introducing these trends in a way that’s fulfilling for both players and developers.

Year in review

Throughout this year we’ve achieved a lot, with the support of a grant from DFINITY we’ve managed to take ToyoWorld from a static frontend scene hosted in a canister to a fully on-chain open world experience right in your browser. Below are just some of the main features we’ve completed this year;

Open World Biome System
As a player, you can roam a living. breathing world with different Toyos generated on each load. We even have biome specific Toyos, like finding certain ice Toyos within the ice world, fire Toyos within the scorching desert and much more.

Free roam battles
Jump right into the actions with battles that unfold within the open world before your very eyes, challenge Toyos in their natural environments and watch as the battle takes place right before you. Win and earn experience, or lose and return to fight another day.

On-chain autosaving
ToyoWorld detects when any key action is taken and saves player data automatically to keep player data safe. This means that when you catch a Toyo, earn some exp or find a rare item, you can be sure that your data will never corrupt or be lost on your next login. And what’s more? This is all done fully on chain.

On-chain Quests
We’ve created on-chain quests that players can take on to earn real world tokens, players can log onto ToyoWorld, win a battle and earn tokens. For those who have supported ToyoWorld, owning an NFT grants you even more tokens than a regular quest would.

What’s Next?

There’s a lot on the horizon for ToyoWorld. In 2025, we’ll focus on three main areas:

  1. Accessibility
  2. Player Acquisition & Retention
  3. Monetization

Our goal is to introduce a healthy stream of players into the game and build a larger community. We are grateful for our dedicated player base and aim to expand it further. We’ll be working on additional mechanics and features targeting player retention, which ties directly into accessibility. Making ToyoWorld accessible and removing barriers is vital, involving technical improvements, enhanced load times, and quicker onboarding. Keeping players engaged and invested in the world is essential for community health.

Thanks for the update and I have one question: how do you plan to balance the free-to-play model with monetization to ensure a fair experience for all players?
