First of all, this situation is entirely my fault. I have lost access to the Internet Identity I used on the NNS App, which also holds funds. The account is quite old, back from the release of Internet Identity, and I never took the time/care to store my recovery phrase or create a passkey.
Now when I try to log in it seems my II number is no longer available and everything associated with it appears to be gone. I don’t have a 2nd device where I’m still logged in nor do I have access through any other browsers.
I’m wondering if there’s any way to recover my account, or is it completely lost at this point? Are there any other recovery options available?
There are 2 methods of authentication in Internet Identity:
Device: passkey or yubikey
Recovery: passphrase or yubikey
It’s not possible to remove all devices from an identity, there is always at least 1 device registered at a time.
Am I correct to assume you still have access to the original device that previously authenticated with Internet Identity?
I’d recommend to look at e.g. your browser history to narrow down when you created your Internet Identity. Based on this time and date it might be possible to narrow down your identity number.
Earliest II number registered on the dashboard is 108251 (98251th identity + 10000 base offset) at 06-02-21, see the Internet Identities graph at https://dashboard.internetcomputer.org. If the date you created your II is between then and now, it should be possible to narrow down a range of identity numbers.
Just FYI: the dashboard shows the amount of IIs registered, but II anchor numbers start at 10000. So if you know the date you registered and that day starts with 123 IIs registered, then the possible II anchor numbers start at 10123
