Domain registration fail with "SSL protocol error"

Greetings.

As title described, I ran into an issue with custom domain registration. I followed new recently redesigned documentation on how to use custom domains on ICP. Including its all troubleshooting steps to make it work. Both, validation and registration statuses are correct(according to documentation for it to work) from the terminal output. There are also no TXT records for the “_acme-challenge-subdomain”, as well as no extra entries for the “_canister-id-subdomain”. In addition I had also successfully checked ic-domains file as instructed in the troubleshooting steps. And I still can’t, after > 48hours of waiting(Which I believe is a standard time period for domain to be accessible), access my canister with a custom domain.

Additional information of specifications:

Canister id: 2zkif-uyaaa-aaaai-aucta-cai
Custom domain: motrix.fun
Domain provider: Hostinger

I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to properly set it up and make it work, cheers!

Hey you might want to try deploying your frontend via https://juno.build, they have some tools availability to setup a custom domain and you can find some guidance here Development | Juno

Hello @amuseDave

Your domain is almost correctly configured and the custom domain has actually been successfully registered:

$ curl -sL -X GET https://icp0.io/custom-domains/v1/motrix.fun | jq
{
  "status": "success",
  "message": "Registration status of the domain",
  "data": {
    "domain": "motrix.fun",
    "canister_id": "2zkif-uyaaa-aaaai-aucta-cai",
    "registration_status": "registered"
  }
}

The only issue is that your domain motrix.fun does not point to any of the HTTP gateways:

$ dig A motrix.fun +short
84.32.84.32

$ dig AAAA motrix.fun +short
2a02:4780:84::32

These IPs are not the DFINITY operated HTTP gateways. So, this is what is missing. Just set up an ALIAS record from @ to motrix.fun.icp1.io. Remove the A and AAAA records.

Then, you should be all set.

Thanks, I’ll look into it more in depth when I have a chance :clap:

Thank you! I appreciate very straightforward/easy to follow-through solution which worked well:folded_hands:
