Bootstrapping a token for ICPixel (using the in-app pixel system)

Continuing the discussion from ICPixel | A browser-based pixel editor on ICP:

I’ve been building ICPixel, a browser-based pixel editor on ICP, and recently added an internal “pixel” system inside the app.

Right now, users can buy pixels using ICP. These aren’t a token, just an internal resource, but I’m using this phase to bootstrap a future token launch.

The general plan is:

  • Use the current pixel system to accumulate initial backing

  • Launch a token via a launchpad (Bob, Ohshii, Caffeine Launcher - still evaluating options)

  • Seed liquidity from what’s raised

  • Redistribute tokens to early users based on their pixel balances

This isn’t a formal presale with fixed terms, more of a bootstrap phase to get the token off the ground without external funding.

A portion will be reserved for ongoing development/marketing (likely with vesting), with the majority going to early users.

A few important points:

  • The token doesn’t exist yet

  • Launchpad/structure is not finalised

  • Distribution details will be defined before launch

  • A snapshot of pixel balances will be taken prior to deployment

  • Early users (people already using/supporting the app) will be prioritised

The goal is to tie everything to actual usage of the product, rather than launching a token in isolation.

Longer term direction

The focus is growing ICPixel as a real tool, targeting not only NFT creators but also pixel artists, indie devs, and general web2 users, not just crypto-native users.

As usage grows, the plan is to introduce optional paid features and expand the editor further. The token would be integrated into that over time, instead of existing as a standalone asset with no real utility.

You need to zoom out of the browser. Best results for 100%, 75%.

Ok it works good with 90%.

You might get some grid misalignment at 90%.

Right. So maybe it would be better to have font size in the config.
