“What if for this year’s conference we renamed the ICP Community Conference (currently SWAMP DAO) to Adam’s Party: the Swamp has been drained!?” (pretty long name but you get the idea, we can do a shorter version)
Hello Swampers and Anti-Swampers,
I’m about to write down a proposal for the SWAMP DAO, where I’m currently sitting as a council member (because I don’t know what else to do with my life).
Here is the thinking:
- Organizing conferences costs a sh*t ton of money (and takes a lot of time). It’s almost never a profitable activity for the organizers, but it is incredibly valuable for the ecosystem as a whole. The impact on founders’ motivation, connections, and access to resources is just incredible. Plus, it’s always a lot of fun. Basically, everyone loves conferences, but no one wants to pay for them or put the efforts to organize them.
- The ICP ecosystem is in a weird spot. We’re currently sitting at $4-5, but we all know that if the ecosystem comes together in an unprecedented way, we’re about to win big in the next few years. And conferences are where this kind of magical “remontada” starts.
- Adam Powell (forum handle @borovan) has been vocal about his financial capabilities and commitment “to save the ecosystem.” What better demonstration of this commitment than throwing a conference and sponsoring travel, tickets, and lodging for dedicated builders within our ecosystem? A conference open for all, for the builders, and organized by the community, just imagine meeting @catpirate32 in person!
In case you want to follow my ICPCC leadership, here is a neuron of mine: 3e4f7d8431b347129c1fc01322299d6462f567d4825634ebc84492b0c1c56d25
I’m going to vote with a simple rule: does my vote increase the probability that those who benefit financially from an ICP conference are going to pay for an ICP conference?
It’s clear that Kyle has put all his heart into trying to organize the next ICPCC, even with a treasury that is pocket money for an ICP whale, even with personal problems, without any sponsorship and being in the middle of ecosystem conflicts. A successful Web3 ecosystem must show love and support to people that are sacrificing their time on personal projects to work on community initiatives.
Does ICP want to be a successful ecosystem?
Throw the Party! (and the money)
