Questions about ALICE Trading Canister

I’m going to provide a copy of all posts that I made in the bobdotfun Telegram group related to treasury transfer proposals, which is where Robert and the majority of the ALICE community gathers for discussions, but instead of making a lot of long posts I will instead hide them under the callouts below. Feel free to browse if you are interested.

Concerns about Proposal 17 Hey @bobdotfun and everyone. I have concerns about proposal 17 and have been thinking today that I should vote to reject. This is the second very large treasury transfer proposal for over 15k ICP tokens. It is being transferred to a canister that is not under the control of the SNS. When Robert proposed creating the ALICE SNS, the ALICE AI agent canister had not been built yet. However, his stated intent was to place the canister(s) under SNS control as soon as it is built. I believe that should happen before additional SNS funds are transferred. I recognize that all previous transfers have been used for their stated purpose, which is AI trading, so in no way do I think that Robert has nefarious intent. However, as stewards of an SNS it seems we should take actions that are in keeping with the decentralized intent of the application.

I plan to wait a couple of days to cast my vote, which helps give everyone a chance to vote independently. There are 6 volunteers who are Followees for the CodeGov ALICE neuron and only 2 have voted so far. The current tally is 1 YES, 1 NO. Hence, there are 3 other people who will also be voting and their vote may trigger consensus for the CodeGov neuron to adopt. However, if any 1 of them vote to reject and I vote to reject, then the CodeGov neuron will reach consensus to reject. I wanted to give everyone a heads up to this possibility in advance.

Proposal 17 is a treasury transfer proposal, which is considered a critical proposal. This means the mandatory minimum voting period is 5 days and it requires a 2/3 majority to pass. I don’t know exactly how much voting power that the CodeGov neuron will trigger on this proposal topic, so I don’t know if a reject vote from CodeGov would be large enough to cause the proposal to fail. However, a reject from CodeGov would likely result in the proposal not being executed until the 5th day.

I would very much like to see the ALICE agent canisters become open source and control transferred to the SNS as originally suggested. Is there anything preventing that from happening? If it is purely a desire to minimize friction on code updates, then that is just the nature of an SNS. SNS code updates do take longer. Nevertheless, the ALICE SNS does have a track record of adopting proposals much faster than other SNS projects. Perhaps it wouldn’t be too bad.

Anyway, feel free to provide feedback on the pros and cons of rejecting this proposal. I will be interested in knowing what both Robert and the community thinks.

CodeGov Result on Proposal 17 Hey @bobdotfun and everyone. The CodeGov ALICE neuron has voted to adopt proposal 17 to transfer the SNS treasury. The tally was 3 yes, 2 no, 1 not voted at the time of the vote. There are only 5 hours left in the voting period. The proposal passed by immediate supermajority decision, which means it is now executed. When the CodeGov neuron voted, it triggered approx 22.8% total voting power. No matter which way the CodeGov ALICE neuron voted, the proposal would have passed since 54% total voting power had already voted to adopt and almost zero voting power voted to reject.

I very much have concerns about the fact that these SNS treasury funds are not going to an account or an app that is controlled by the SNS. From what I recall at SNS launch, the ALICE trading agent canister was supposed to be transferred to SNS canister control by now. It would be nice if that could happen sooner rather than later.

CodeGov Result on Proposal 21 Hey @bobdotfun and everyone. As indicated previously (see linked message above), the CodeGov ALICE neuron has voted to reject ALICE proposal 21.

I hope everyone had plenty of time to adjust your following if you disagree with this decision and are following the CodeGov ALICE neuron. There was plenty of advanced warning.

It is now 6 hours after the proposal was submitted and 42% total voting power had already voted to Adopt at the time that I voted. When the CodeGov neuron voted to Reject, it triggered 26% total voting power, which is more than the 22% that we triggered on the last SNS Treasury Transfer proposal 17. I’m not sure if that is because people had more time to vote manually last time or if it’s because we obtained more followers.

Either way, there has been a lot of time to change your following if you didn’t want your neuron triggered by a CodeGov ALICE neuron vote to Reject. I announced this decision here in this chat group, on the alicedotfun OpenChat community, and on the forum almost a week ago. Hence, I took all reasonable efforts to let folks know. Please change your following if you do not like this decision. You can follow different neurons on different topics as described in the previous post, so feel free to set your neuron up however you think is best for your own personal interests.

So at this time, 68% total voting power has voted with 4 days 18 hours left to vote. It will require 2/3 majority to pass since this is a critical proposal, which means another 10% will need to vote to Adopt to pass in 5 days and 25% will be needed to Adopt by immediate supermajority.

I’m fine with however this one turns out, but I cannot in good conscious let the CodeGov ALICE neuron vote to Adopt since the Alice trading bot canisters have not been transferred to SNS control as promised prior to SNS launch. There is too much risk to CodeGov if we don’t advocate for this form of decentralization given that it’s the entire point of a decentralization swap.

CodeGov Result on Proposal 22 Hey @bobdotfun and everyone. Robert submitted another treasury transfer proposal 22 again today and the CodeGov ALICE neuron has voted to Reject again as previously announced. This time the CodeGov ALICE neuron triggered 29 %TVP at the time of the vote, which is an increase from yesterday. I still welcome anyone who disagrees with this decision to stop following CodeGov on the Transfer SNS Treasury Funds topic, but for the foreseeable future it seems there will be no choice except for CodeGov to reject these proposals. I don't want CodeGov to trigger your vote unless you truly want us to Reject these proposals at this time, so please do what you think is right for you and your investment in this SNS project.

Take home message is that the CodeGov neuron will no longer vote to adopt these treasury transfer proposals until the ALICE trading agent canister is placed under ALICE control. Only Robert can take that action. This is what was promised at ALICE SNS launch, but the canister had not been built yet at the time. The canisters that ALICE controls are the BOB miner app and the BOB token launchpad. I’m sure some folks don’t like the fact that CodeGov has voted to reject these treasury transfer proposals, but that’s ok. I still invite folks to not follow CodeGov on that proposal topic if you still prefer for the treasury transfer to go through. All of this was very transparent in the BOB community.

Below is the snsgeek.app result for all ALICE treasury transfer proposals. Proposal 25 was submitted by @borovan. Proposal 23 was submitted by me. I don’t know who submitted proposal 26. All other proposals were submitted by Robert, the lead BOB / ALICE developer.

One other post can be found here on the forum when I first made the announcement on the CodeGov policy for treasury transfers. It is cross posted below.
