[Proposal 136594] Grant PokedStudioUK \$1M in Funding – Support a Proven Builder

Hey everyone,

Proposal 136594 is now live on the NNS. It proposes a $1M grant for PokedStudioUK, the creative studio led by @jonit —known for Motoko Ghosts and PokedBots.

Jon’s been consistently building on ICP from the beginning, bringing world-class design and energy to the ecosystem. Now, he’s aiming to take things further by launching a multiplayer game set in Delta City, and he’s doing it the right way—with matched funding efforts, professional team building, and no salary for himself.

Why this matters:

  • Jon has worked with Sony, Mattel, Hasbro, Nintendo, and more
  • Delivered successful NFT projects that sold out and brought attention to ICP
  • Continues to reinvest into the ecosystem
  • Never previously asked for funding
  • Game already in development, not a vague promise

The proposal lays out a realistic path forward—not a pipe dream—and it’s aimed at keeping talent like Jon building here, not elsewhere.

This is a ‘read the room’ proposal, and was probably written by @jamesbeadle .

Thanks to whoever submitted that proposal. I really appreciate the sentiment.

It does raise questions on how the community view how effectively the current charitable funding grants and SNS funding is being handed out, 408’984.95 ICP for boom DAO for example and what sectors and projects are being ignored.

It also raises the question of why I should personally keep putting only my own funds into the project while others are receiving 100’000’s ICP a month in funds for vapour projects or $10,000’s just to vote.

Bad actors from inside and outside of the foundation have gamed every single last point to maximise value extraction. The actual people who care in the future of the IC are completely oblivious to what’s going on.

I don’t understand… This proposal, even if passed, has no effect on anything?

its more a measure of sentiment I guess

That tweet has irked me someone, not sure what he’s saying but I get there is no mechanism to approve funding even if voted yes but Jan seams to be suggesting that the community should fund projects out of their own holdings? So what are dfinity funding exactly?

@jonit You should launch another SNS. I honestly think the sentiment is strong.

Exactly! Charcters….

It was submitted by the same neuron that submitted for open fpl sns launch. So probably James proposed it.

Most people will vote no, because it has no info about how money is used or even if they build something. Didnt see how they plan to make something sustainable, if spend 1mil usd and in 3 years nothing meaningful is made, its again wasted money.
No need another BoomDAO effect.
To get money, need to have well written plan and project has to make money back what was spent on it.

Maybe the proposer thought there was no need to explain as Dfinity themselves used Pokedbots as a promo advertising tool through end of 2021 till 2022 and marketed it as the Metaverse project that would encompass gaming and NFT and media and was going to built on ICP with the support of Dfinity. The promo video was shown millions of times on twitter.

Through that marketing they onboarded thousands of people into the ecosystem.
It gave the impression that Dfinity would support the project and make sure it succeed into fruition.

@jamesbeadle is this what you were considering when writing the proposal?

Proposal goal was to turn people against Dfinity for not supporting so called builders.
Gaming on web3 is hard to sell, 99% projects fail fast as there is no users and money. Most players are under 16 years, they have no idea what is crypto and dont care about web3.

the proposal goal was more likely highlighting issues builders are having. No one has got to the point of marketing a fully functional top class game and NFT ecosystem yet. We should be leading not following. Its like complaining than buying online didn’t take off in the year 2000, and then giving up , its was because the full stack and infrastructure needed was not built out at that point. We are supposed to be building the full stack web3, for that we are going to need communities that use it. Gaming is a key element of building online communities.

Came across this proposal this morning for PokedStudio to receive funding as they have never received or applied for it.

This is more of a sentiment proposal, to see how people feel about that.

I found that some dust neuron, only .03 voting power, I had had voted no. I wondered how can that be since the proposal was recently submitted and still has 3 days left for voting.

I checked how this happened and sure enough it was Synapse who had voted no at the beginning of the voting period.

They have previously stated that they would vote at the end of the voting period to give their followers time to vote.

Would love to hear why cabal leader @wpb voted no… or is mysterious silence part of the strategy?

interesting I also note that many of their members abstained from voting or didnt vote in time

What other SNS did @jonit launch before now?

If you brought a solid business plan for your project, I’m sure many people would be interested in funding it. As it stands there’s neither a business plan or a MVP to show for it.
