Norlys.live is a non-profit, ad-free platform built by Hugo and Adrien to help people chase and enjoy the northern lights. It provides aurora predictions and visualizations so anyone, from casual sky watchers to dedicated aurora chasers, can plan their nights under the stars. The project has grown a strong presence in Norway and online, thanks to Adrien’s work on Instagram and his reputation in the aurora community.

Recently, we rewrote our aurora prediction model in Rust and deployed it on the Internet Computer. We are grateful that DFINITY is supporting us, and our hope is to move much more of the app onto the IC over time, eventually having the entire product run there. Norlys was already an established product before we began exploring the IC, so we have many services to migrate, and it will take time. But we are very enthusiastic and committed to steadily moving towards 100% IC.

Norlys is not built for profit, and it does not include ads. The mission is simple: to help as many people as possible experience the magic of the aurora. Even though I don’t get to see the Aurora borealis in my area, I’m still super fascinated by this endeavor and what I’ve seen thus far on the website. The idea of having the whole thing on the Internet Computer is super interesting, especially for something that needs real-time data like aurora predictions!

Thank you! Since we already had quite a few services as I said it’s a bit of work to move but I already have ideas as to how to move all the parts that collects data from various sources, computes all the scores and stores the short term history. Then we could directly query the canister for this!
