Apologies for the delay.
Adding to this thread that it would be great to be able to select the currency of display in the NNS app. Currently we can only see portfolio value in USD.
Inclusion in the roadmap is greatly appreciated. I look forward to implementation.
Has there been any progress on advancing this roadmap item - multi-lingual support for Internet Identity?
Is there a way to measure progress by looking at the design, analysis or implementation deliverables?
Haha, I wish there was only one problem we have to solve. Right now we’re focused on the migration of identities from II 1.0 to 2.0. Once this is done we can take a look at multi-language support.
Thank you Georgi. Multi-lingual support is important. I am looking forward to that component of Plexus being rolled out.
this is being worked on actively now! ![]()
I saw @sea-snake sharing a related PR recently ![]()
Spanish support should be in the next II release. Other languages coming in subsequent releases.
Any dates yet for when French will be supported? It seems such a shame that each time an opportunity to solve a problem with the Internet Computer Protocol in the public policy space surfaces it has to be deferred because the Identification and Authentication framework still does not support the languages of the local jurisdiction. It undermines the “world computer” moniker. The use of a language other than English is required in a large portion of the world.
I appreciate the work moving forward on the next release of II but am impatient because I can’t even bring ICP forward in a discussion.
I see that there are 4 .po files that have been dropped in the internet-identity/src/frontend/src/lib/locales covering English, German, Spanish and Indonesian.
I raised a github issue to help with the lack of French and provided the corresponding translated FR.po file attached to the issue. Hopefully this will help advance things.
Let me know if it is helpful and I will work on another language on my list.
Just saw the GitHub issue, really appreciate the help!
Keep in mind that we’re currently limited by the ~2MB limit in NNS upgrade proposals. Unfortunately, this means in practice we won’t be able to add new languages or update any translations since that would make the WASM too big.
We’re currently investigating a short and long term solution to workaround this limit. Once this has been resolved, updating the existing translations and adding more languages should be relatively straightforward.
Thanks for the feedback.
Is there progress on multi-lingual support?
Since we managed to successfully deploy the canister split, we’ve now enough space for additional languages.
Besides English, there’s now:
We’ll additionally have the following in the next release:
We’re also planning the following in the short term:
@sea-snake the language switch hard to discover right now. ideally the language is auto-detected and the correct language is used if a translation is available.
I just switched to German and I think this claim should be fixed asap:
note: I would also like to be able to manually switch between light-/darkmode if possible ![]()
Both language and light dark mode should be automatic based on the device settings. Having a manual toggle for light/dark in the footer similar to language, probably makes sense indeed.
Thanks for the translation PR, highly appreciate any contributions regarding translations.
I actually provided some additional commits when I saw that the landing page switches the text. I also read through the FAQ and improved the claim about biometrics.
