BONE - An open-source, no-pre-mining, deflationary on-chain mining game based on PoW, backed by DOGMI
BONE is the first mining game built on ICP using the PoW (Proof of On-chain Work) mechanism.
Background
The PoW mechanism brings new growth momentum to the ICP ecosystem. However, projects currently utilizing this mechanism face several issues, such as closed-source code, pre-mining, and tokens lacking real utility. As a highly representative and excellent DAO organization within the ICP ecosystem, DOGMI will launch the DAO-controlled PoW mining game BONE while avoiding these drawbacks and maintaining its consistent fun nature. This will fill the gap in the ICP ecosystem for PoW mining game projects.
Features of BONE
(1)The project is entirely controlled in a decentralized manner by DOGMI DAO.
(2) The code is open-source.
(3) No pre-mining.
(4) It has a deflationary mechanism.
Working Mechanism of BONE
The overall operational logic of BONE is illustrated in the following diagram:
(a) How to Mine?
BONE offers two mining methods:
Users can deploy one or more of their own DOG Miners. The initial DOG Miner is a Copper DOG Miner, which users can upgrade in various ways. DOG Miners will calculate hash values based on algorithm agreements and receive BONE token rewards accordingly.
Users can also form a DOG Alliance by having their DOG Miners work together with those of other users. The BONE token incentives earned through DOG Alliance mining will be distributed among the DOG Miners within the alliance based on their weight.
(b) How to Upgrade DOG Miner?
Users can pay BONE tokens to upgrade their Copper DOG Miner to either a Silver DOG Miner or a Gold DOG Miner. The Silver DOG Miner will have greater mining weight compared to the Copper DOG Miner while consuming the same amount of Cycles. Similarly, the Gold DOG Miner will have greater mining weight than the Silver DOG Miner.
The DOG Miner with the highest mining weight will be the Diamond DOG Miner, and notably, users will need to use DOGMI tokens to perform upgrade operations.
(c) How is BONE Deflationary?
The BONE and DOGMI tokens paid by users during the DOG Miner upgrade operations will be transferred to a black hole address and permanently destroyed. This will continuously reduce the total supply of BONE.
(d) Connection with DOGMI DAO
The BONE project will be funded by the DOGMI DAO treasury for development, and DOGMI DAO will have decision-making power over the BONE project. Additionally, 3% of the BONE token rewards earned by users through mining will be paid to the DOGMI DAO treasury to reserve funds for the project’s future development!

Mining Mechanism and Upgrades
Please clarify the specifications and upgrade paths for Copper, Silver, Gold, and Diamond DOG Miners, including:
Hash power multiplier for each tier (e.g., Copper 1x, Silver 2x, etc.)
Upgrade costs in BONE tokens or other currencies
Any additional benefits or features unlocked with upgrades
Ecosystem Alignment and Tokenomics
How does the requirement of DOGMI tokens for Miner upgrades benefit the broader ICP ecosystem?
Shouldn’t the focus be on burning ICP to support the ecosystem’s growth?
What is the rationale behind introducing $BONE instead of leveraging $ICP or $DOGMI?
Wouldn’t burning $DOGMI to acquire $BONE or $ICP create a more streamlined and beneficial economic loop for the ICP community?
How does the introduction of $BONE align with the goal of supporting the ICP ecosystem, rather than creating a separate, potentially competing economy?
Alternative Token Utilization
Consider alternative scenarios to promote greater ecosystem synergy:
Burning $ICP to acquire $DOGMI or $BONE
Utilizing $ICP as a primary token for upgrades and transactions
Aligning $BONE’s deflationary mechanism with $DOGMI or $ICP to create a unified economic incentive structure
How does BONE plan to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of its ecosystem, especially considering the deflationary nature of its tokenomics?
The biggest difference, of course, is that we have directly integrated the POW mining mechanism into the gameplay, allowing users to mine the tokens needed for the game through POW.
The mining mechanism is the foundation of the BONE game—mining enables the creation of BONE, and with BONE, users can access additional features in the GameFi system, as well as unlock many potential functionalities in the future.
From a mechanism design perspective, the miner upgrade strategy and social features will enhance user engagement. Players can unlock special abilities as they upgrade their DOG Miners, and the expansion of the DOG alliance will encourage players to form teams, share resources, or compete with other alliances.
A key point of interest for players is the increase in token value, and a deflationary model ensures the in-game economy remains healthy, providing long-term value for players.
Additionally, BONE features no pre-mining and is fully open-source, creating a transparent and fair competitive environment that players are likely to appreciate.
Together, these features will drive player participation, foster a strong community, and ensure long-term player retention.
Token Rewards: Players earn BONE tokens through mining, which are distributed based on their mining performance and contributions. There is no pre-mining of tokens, ensuring fairness for all participants.
Deflationary Mechanism: The game employs a deflationary token economy. Tokens used for upgrading DOG Miners or engaging in other in-game activities are permanently burned (sent to a black hole address). This gradually reduces the total supply of tokens over time, increasing the value of the remaining tokens and promoting long-term economic stability.
Governance and Treasury: The project is fully governed by the DOGMI DAO, which holds 2% of mining rewards in the DAO treasury. These funds are allocated for future development and community-driven projects, incentivizing players to actively participate in DAO governance.
Incentives for Mining Participation
Upgrading DOG Miners: Players can upgrade their DOG Miners by spending BONE tokens (e.g., from copper to silver or gold miners). Higher-tier miners have greater mining power and can earn more token rewards. This encourages players to continuously invest in the game to improve their mining capabilities.
DOG Alliances: Players who prefer not to upgrade can join forces to form DOG alliances for collective mining and resource sharing. Alliances can mine more efficiently, and BONE rewards are distributed based on each miner’s contribution within the alliance, promoting teamwork and strategic collaboration.
Deflationary Supply: As the total supply of BONE tokens decreases due to the deflationary mechanism, the value of the remaining tokens is likely to increase over time. This encourages long-term participation and token holding, allowing players to benefit from potential token appreciation.
The amount of BONE spent on upgrades will be related to the hash power weight that the player aims to achieve after the upgrade. The greater the desired hash power weight, the more BONE will be required. Specific values will be announced before the game’s release.
Currently, upgrading the Dog Miner will enhance its hash power weight and increase the probability of earning rewards. Future plans involve linking the Dog Miner upgrade system to NFTs, with each Dog Miner corresponding to a unique NFT. Additionally, more game attributes will be developed and expanded upon within the NFT framework.
The BONE project is developed with the support of DOGMI. The introduction of DOGMI Token into the BONE economy serves two purposes: to express gratitude for DOGMI’s support and to promote the integration of the ICP ecosystem. In the future, we hope to support the official tokens of more projects from other ecosystems as well.
The BONE mechanism already incorporates features that promote the growth of ICP. The mining process of BONE utilizes Cycles as fuel, which will contribute to the deflation of ICP.
The decision to introduce $BONE instead of utilizing existing tokens like $ICP or $DOGMI is based on the unique positioning, functionality, and incentives that $BONE can bring to the game ecosystem. Here are the main reasons:
Dedicated Token for Gaming Design: $BONE is specifically designed for the mining game ecosystem, allowing for the introduction of a token tailored to the game mechanics. This ensures that the game can have an independent economic model, controlling token supply, reward distribution, and deflation mechanisms—capabilities that may not be feasible with $ICP or $DOGMI.
Aligned Incentive Mechanisms: The introduction of $BONE provides players with a direct incentive structure that encourages their active participation in the game. When there is a clear reward system specifically linked to in-game actions (such as mining and upgrading miners), player engagement tends to be higher.
Economic Autonomy and Flexibility: $BONE grants the game its own economic autonomy, enabling developers and the community to optimize the tokenomics specifically for the game without relying on external factors associated with $ICP or $DOGMI.
What we aim to create is a project that brings developmental benefits to ICP, DOGMI, and all parties within the ICP ecosystem, with BONE serving as the connecting point. You’ll find that the current model can create deflation for BONE, DOGMI, and ICP simultaneously, establishing a favorable economic cycle.
