Hi All,
I want to propose an idea that may be a short term solution to the scaling issues affecting projects on certain subnets.
Right now a lot of projects are suffering because of BOB and Yral deploying a lot of canisters that use heartbeats and other traffic consuming resources.
As far as I can tell there is no good solution or quick fix that DFINTY can do right now and so i propose that BOB and Yral to be removed from their current subnets.
For all the other projects on the same subnet they will see their apps become responsive again and likely some of Yral’s canisters are also suffering so it’s in their interest to also move off the current subnet.
I realise that this isn’t necessarily BOB’s or Yral’s fault but until we get a viable solution then everyone’s projects and deployment schedules are going out the window.
I also think that we can collectively donate some ICP for Yral and Bob to go towards a new subnet for themselves and or to redeployment of their canisters because as mentioned, this isn’t their fault.
TL;DR
- proposal to remove all Yral & BOB canisters from problematic subnets
- donation fund to help Yral and BOB move.
I’d say, SOLID PLAN, but there’s a flaw in this brilliant plan
How do you find all the canisters that belong to those guys?
They sneaky and their canisters are hiding in plain sight. No way of knowing all their canister IDs unless you can dump the memory contents of the controller canisters. Don’t think they’ll like that and agree to it
Well, I can guess you are from Yral. obviously I’d want you onboard to do this. This isn’t meant to be a witch hunt so to speak in order to target you for doing something wrong. As such, I believe we can reach a deal if all parties are willing to help each other. I also work for a major DAO and we’re effected by your deployments as of late. If you were to move to your own subnet or a subnet with very few canisters then you win and the projects that have canisters on the congested subnet win.
There is a way I know of to find all the canisters deployed by Yral so that part isn’t a problem though it might take me a day to code up the automated search. Still, if DFINITY is likely to take a a month to patch this issue then I would say it’s worth it.
As for the donations. I was thinking of having a week long donation run and then DFINITY can match the pot value at the end of the week and thereby effectively double the total.
The donations pot is meant to compensate for destroying your canisters and recreating them on a different subnet.
I realize that is might be seen as a bit far fetched but if the issues persist then it might be realistic option. When we consider we’ve had intermittent issues for 2 weeks now I believe this idea only grows in effectiveness.
