Ledger Live now supports ICP

I would love to know if there are any updates to staked neurons via ledger showing up on Ledger Live. Thank you @lmuntaner

Hi @GSWfan

The team is still working on it. We had some issues with the latest IC App release in Ledger that we had to solve and that is delaying this development.

I’d like to understand more why this is an important feature for you.

  • Do you use the NNS Dapp?
  • Is using the Ledger App more convenient for you than NNS Dapp? Why?
  • Do you expect to be able to vote through Ledger Live?
  • Do you have a lot of neurons?

No need to reply if you don’t feel comfortable, but it would help us to understand our users

Thanks!

Hello @lmuntaner ,

-Yes, I have been using the NNS Dapp since 2021.
-I have my neuron attached to my ledger, and it would be cool to see its price value on Ledger Live as well as the amount of ICP I hold.
-No, I vote via my laptop/phone.
-No, just the one on NNS.

Thank you for the swift response. I’ll be patient and enjoy the world of ICP in the meantime. Thanks once again @lmuntaner !

Hey @GSWfan, there is work in progress to show neurons in Ledger Live. I assume it would show fiat values, but I don’t know for sure.

We have plans to propose changes to the NNS dapp to show fiat values for tokens and neurons as well. It’s not the next item on our roadmap, but I’m hopeful that we can get to it sooner than later.

Hi @lmuntaner,

I hope this message finds you well.

A very important aspect is also the better manageability of successions: the heirs of a deceased ICP holder must be able to find the ICP with the rest of the crypto investor’s serious assets. It is a necessity to ensure that ICP is taken seriously as an investment asset. Heirs must not have to remember an internet identity, its way of authentication, etc. A self-custodial holder would not take the chance of investing in an asset that their heirs might never find, unlike with BTC, ETH, etc. By displaying the ICP in the staking section of Ledger Live, its value, etc., ICP becomes real for our non degen’ heirs and by consequence for non degen’ investors. It is like a proto-institutionalization.

Wen ICRC tokens in Ledger ?

Bob and Burn two of the most popular icp tokens and it’s not possible to hold them on ledger…

Actually, you can hold any ICRC-1 token on a Ledger device: The hardware wallet client has an icrc subcommand that lets you check balances and transfer tokens.

Of course, this is only a workable solution for users who are comfortable with command-line tools. We still need more convenient solutions with a nice graphical interface.

Ok thanks for pointing that out, but my point still stands. Most people can’t use the command line and most people do not have access to an air-gapped setup.

We are trying to be a world computer and we don’t have a way to hold important ecosystem tokens in a normal ledger device which is the industry standard. Please prioritize this development!

Hi!

The progress to stake ICP in Ledger Live is moving forward. We are on the final stages of development.

However, we have been told that the process to release those changes in Ledger Live will be long, so we are not expecting this to happen this year.

We hope that the release will come Q1 2025 :crossed_fingers:

Thanks so much.

Any update on ledger support for other SNS or ICRC tokens in the NNS dApp?

It’s on our roadmap to add support, but not in the next couple of months. We’re trying to find a balance between exciting new features and expanding support for existing things.

For some time, there was a blocker from Ledger’s side, but as Llorenc said, that is soon coming to an end. Will make it easier to prioritise.
