Question on the ‘short flow’ users will need to do:

We have 300 new users in the ICP ecosystem that we convinced to use the last flow.
When using the new II → could there be a link and a flow there for these users to follow when we decide to upgrade?

I do not want a hundred 100 ICP apps to all need to make a new explanation and UI to explain how to update to version 2.

New user → Press “Login” → new II 2 login.
Old user → Press “Login” → explanation on how to move over old II to II2.

thanks!

That’s correct.

We are working on a migration path for users of legacy II to upgrade to the new II.

The upgrade will ensure backwards compatibility with apps using legacy II. Those users will be able to move freely between new and legacy flows.

Great. What is the timeline for this again?
We would happily be the first ‘in production’ team to use it.

We are working on it at the moment.

We still don’t have a delivery date for this feature though.

There are two more features before this one still.

Good news, to me the main feature besides compatibility with II 1.0 would be the availability to have seed phrases to recover our identity.

Seed phrases are a very popular concept in the world of Bitcoin crypto, and they would love to see this implemented, myself too.

Agreed, caters to all.

Will Internet Identity 2.0 have seed phrase that can be ‘hardened’ too? My concern is if one of passkey device is compromised, can the hacker take over the internet identity by revoking other device passkey owned by the true owner ?

From what the II Team explained earlier, 2.0 is supposed to be fully backward compatible to the legacy version, so I conclude that this valuable option of additional seed phrase security will also be included.

Yes, seed phrases are in the roadmap of 2.0.

I’m hoping will soon start working on it.

Okay, but let’s be clear about something. Will the old seed phrase remain valid?

How do I migrate if I only have the seed phrase as a recovery method (I don’t have a hardware /security / usb key - and don’t plan on getting one). I only use the seed phrase as a login / authorize method on a new devices.

So, the main question is: will I log in to the new identity USING MY CURRENT seed phrase ? !

And that’s my main concern regarding migration. How will users who don’t have “device recovery” gadgets complete the migration? So, the seed phrase of ii1.0 MUST work with 2.0, there is no other way, I hope you understand that??

Keeping the configured seed phrases compatible with the migrated identities was a design decision we made long time ago. Users will be able to use them to get access to their 2.0 identity.

Stay cool and continue using II!

FYI, users can now upgrade to II v2

In my opinion, II2.0 should not be released without a seed phrase because seed phrases are the last resort for web3 security. Google authentication can be blocked, devices can be damaged (both of which I have experienced), devices can become outdated, and so on. Private keys or seed phrases should be used as a last resort. Releasing without seed phrases may cause some people with poor security awareness to lose assets.

Is it possible to register seedphrase with airgapped device?

Hello sir, What is the mnemonic word pattern of II 2.0 like? I hope it remains the same as that of II 1.0, which is the pattern of number + phrase. This way, users of II1.0 can transfer to II 2.0 more conveniently, and even many years later, users of 1.0 can easily retrieve their accounts.

Is it possible to migrate an II1.0 to an II2.0 and use the same name that was used to create an II2.0 test account when it first came out?

Same question.

How can I link my II 2.0v1 name to my II 2.0v2 name? Clicking on that upgrade from legacy button only leaves me with ii 1.0 information to put in.

do we HAVE to migrate to II 2 ?
or is it just an option?

in case we have to.. till when ?

Seed phrases from 1.0 will be compatible with 2.0. This is a requirement that 2.0 will fulfill.

However, we still don’t know exactly what the 2.0 seed phrases will look like.
