So is this new II? And will old ID be compatible or need to create new ID? Also… wen launch?

Yes, this is II v2 that we’ve been working on lately. It’ll provide support for:
We’re working on the migration plan which will allow all existing identities to be migrated as is to the new flows. Do join us on June 25th in the next GRD meeting where we’ll share more details.
I think the “Discoverable passkeys” feature should be user-selectable. For example, with this feature, if I lose my yubi key, can someone else still access my wallet without my Identity number?
Currently, if I lose my hardware key, I can still change it if I have my Identity number and seed phrase.

This would still be the case, you can always remove a passkey (including those created by a yubikey)
Technically speaking, losing a yubikey (without a pin), would give the finder access to your II. Even if they didn’t have the identity number, losing it should still be a concern since they could still theoretically loop over all possible identity numbers and gain access by trial and error.
The identity number by itself is not intended to be relied upon as security feature. Instead it’s recommended to rely upon the yubikey pin that has a max number of attempts until it requires a reset that wipes all its data.
Hi, does this mean that ii(Internet identify anchor) will be cancelled?
I do believe it is very cool design in ic chain…
The anchor numbers will not be visible to end users anymore. They become an internal ID that is only used in the code.
Note that users will be able to name their identity should they need to distinguish between multiple ones. However, these names are only visible to them.
As to the anchor numbers: this is the number one usability complaint we’ve been getting for years. They may get some appeal to more technical users but everyone else is questioning them.
Can users choose to display with “ii anchor” or a custom name by themselves? and if the seed phase(with ii anchor) feature is also cancelled? thanks a lot.
Yes, that’s a very good question. It would be great to see a reality where you simply plug in your YubiKey or enter your seed phrase on any device and your identity gets restored. This might increase the risk of brute-force attacks in the future, but it would definitely be much more convenient.
Curious… why .ai and not .id ?
Seems kinda fitting for "world computer, no?
Seems Sam only picked it up recently, was it ever taken into consideration?
Jippity jip jip:
Integration World ID with Internet Identity for optional zk-proof-based uniqueness. Could help with Sybil resistance and fair DAO voting - worth exploring!
People are asking this question. Will users be able to migrate their current internet identity to v2? I would assume so.
Really hoping we can get a “public identity” soon that we can use across Dapps. This is the #1 thing holding II back!
Yes. It would be awesome if we could have that.
I really liked that one update where the theme was a bit more.. colorful. Y’know? One side was colored in the ICP theme and the other was a nice light theme. Now everything’s all dark and tbh it’s not fitting my vibe. Even if there is a dark mode, having a light default seems more friendly, bright, softer, and open. A toggle would be fine with a default light just like the previous light theme.

Will recovery based on the numbers and phrase still be possible?
There are a few things that we want to finish before we release this new solution:
FYI, the II v2 color theme is dark or light according to the system settings.
The sudden upgrade of IIv2 is so innocent for those of us who already have II identities, even if we have no assets. Those neurons bound to ii numbers are so innocent. Currently, there are 2.7 million II users. The sudden upgrade and change have really surprised us. I’d like to make a suggestion: Keep the current II number. Because a II number is similar to the QQ number of Tencent. One account can log in to all Tencent applications. I believe that in the future, one II number will be able to log in to all ICP Dapps.
Agree, maybe can add more feature like Google but not cancel ii anchor, i think most people in crypto world would like to keep anonymous. User have right to choose which way.
I want to integrate II v2 into my dapp, but is there any documentation on how to do it?
So our novelty IIs are going to become extinct? Thought it was cool to own one of the first 200 ever created but I understand if we evolve too it is what it is as long as it’s for the better good
What’s the GRD meeting and can I join to listen in?
