Hi, some Juno devs have asked about supporting id(dot)ai, so I’d like to clarify a couple of things:
Will id(dot)ai always be supported directly, or is it planned to eventually become just an alias for identity(dot)internetcomputer(dot)org (or the other way around)?
Will it always be branded as Internet Identity, or is a rebranding (naming wise) expected soon or in the future?
Or in other words: is id(dot)ai equals to identity(dot)internetcomputer(dot)org or should we expect them to become separate entities in the future?
The reason I’m asking is that the answer determines whether the implementation can remain purely frontend, or if backend changes will also be required. If it’s the latter, I’d like to avoid any painful migrations down the road.
My completely anecdotal experience is that the current branding is off-putting / scary to “normal” not tech savy people. They see “internet identity” and they think, “theyre trying to get my information” or something like that. The login with google option helps a lot because people “trust” google.
Ironically these same people are happy to upload what and where they ate breakfast to their social feed.
I have to accept that I won’t get an answer so I’ll gamble on my own understanding of this announcement post. My assumption is that if - however unlikely based on the mentionned post - id(dot)ai and identity(dot)internetcomputer(dot)org were ever to become separate entities, we wouldn’t be the only dapps affected. Therefore, I’ll limit myself to improving the frontend tooling and won’t implement backend changes, assuming that if issues arise, we won’t be the only ones impacted.

The current plan is to migrate all users and apps to use id.ai. However, we’re not yet ready to share a timeline for this migration.
Will it always be branded as Internet Identity, or is a rebranding (naming wise) expected soon or in the future?
There is currently no plan to rebrand Internet Identity.
