Over the past couple of months I’ve been focused on making the editor feel like a real production tool rather than simply adding new features.
A huge amount of work has gone into improving the foundations of the application.
Some of the larger changes include:
- Major UI redesign
- New ICPixel logo and visual identity
- Completely redesigned icon system
- Significant improvements to the layer workflow
- Animation and timeline refinements
- Numerous UX improvements
- Large numbers of bug fixes and internal optimizations
Although many of these changes aren’t immediately obvious from a feature list, together they make the editor considerably more polished and enjoyable to use.
One of my biggest goals has been to give ICPixel its own identity.
Rather than imitating existing pixel editors, I’m building a design language that’s unique to the project, from the icons and typography to the UI framework itself.
The editor is also becoming increasingly mature technically. Every update improves stability, workflow, and the overall experience, laying the groundwork for much larger features that are already planned.
For those unfamiliar with the project:
ICPixel is a browser-based pixel art and animation editor.
There is still a lot to build, planning $PIXEL release soon.
The current update is less about reaching the finish line and more about reaching a point where ICPixel has a strong technical foundation and a recognizable identity.
Thanks for following along with the project! ![]()
