How much learning of IC tech is required for me to be commercially useful?

I worked through your starter tutorials, as they were about 18 months ago (things may have moved on since then). At the time yours were the only blockchain starter tutorials I could get much past first base on without running into obscure environmental issues!

I’m contemplating revisiting now and going through your developer journey. What I’d like to know is how much of a demand is there for remote paid work with this tech – even if not hugely remunerative initially? The technology looks very complex, though maybe not so much from an application developer’s point of view? How much effort would be required in terms of hours, weeks of learning and practice to be commercially useful? Given I have:

1 No prior commercial experience in blockchain (though basic familiarity with wallets and the concept of smart contracts).

2 Many years of commercial software development experience mainly (but not exclusively) in the Microsoft development stack spanning from C++ and VB era to modern .NET (I also have some familiarity with The Actor Model).

Not much yet. Here’s the best list of open ICP jobs that I know of: https://careers.internetcomputer.org/jobs
The other thing that could be interesting to you is our grants program: Developer Grants Program | DFINITY

At the moment there’s not much demand TBH. Most people work more on their own projects and hope to launch an SNS or do something similar, so more like working for equity
