Decent Cloud (DePIN and other decentralized offerings) on the ICP!

Hello everyone using cloud services—

I’m building a peer-to-peer platform for renting cloud resources (just a hobby—won’t be big or professional like the big guys). It’s something I’ve been tinkering with for a while, and I’d love your thoughts—especially if you’ve ever dealt with juggling multiple providers or struggled to find the best one.

Here’s the gist:

  1. Unified API
Through a single interface, you’ll be able to tap into both brand-new, lesser-known providers (selling extra capacity from on-premise servers) and established providers like AWS, Azure, GCP, or Vultr. Ambitious providers (like you) can either broker existing cloud offerings or list their own—and earn money either way. End users gain a straightforward, programmable interface for switching providers or using multiple at once, boosting fault tolerance in the process.

  2. Unified Payment
Crypto payments enable anyone to rent or provide services without needing a credit card. This keeps the platform open and avoids reliance on any single payment monopoly. Card payments are not excluded in the future, in case you ask.

  3. Reputation & Reviews
Reputation is the cornerstone of Decent Cloud. It grows gradually but can vanish quickly if someone provides poor service. The community can collectively downgrade a provider’s standing when issues arise, effectively pushing them out of the marketplace. Because data doesn’t lie, it’s easy for users to inspect historical records and provider satisfaction before making a choice.

  4. Community-Driven
Everything—from development to governance—is open source, decentralized, and self-sustaining. This is a small attempt to reduce monopolistic control by big-name providers. Nothing more, nothing less. Your help and your contributions matter!

We’re not running an Initial Coin Offering (ICO). Instead, tokens are generated fairly every 10 minutes (similar to Bitcoin) and can be claimed by all registered providers. If you’re a potential cloud service or VPS provider—or a sub-leaser—you’re invited to jump in, list your offerings, and regularly check in to earn these 10-minute rewards.

Please share your experiences—either in the project discussions or by replying to this post. I’m happy to answer questions and would love your feedback and ideas. It’s still early, so don’t expect a grand enterprise product just yet—but if you want to help shape how this project grows, hop aboard and let’s see where it goes!

Is there someone here who is good with frontend development?

I really need expert help for the frontend. I reached out to some people with something along the lines of:

I’m working on a new community-driven, open-source platform that aims to end the cloud services oligopoly. By renting cloud resources on a peer-to-peer basis, we can reduce costs, increase resilience, and prevent vendor lock-in. If you’ve worked with traditional providers, you’re likely familiar with steep pricing and the occasional catastrophic outage when data centers or even entire regions fail.

You can think of Decent Cloud as the “Airbnb of cloud services” just more fair and open. Here’s what sets it apart:

  • Full Transparency: Provider reputations are tracked over time in an immutable and tamper-proof ledger, ensuring data remains open and free.

  • No Gatekeepers: No single entity—myself included—can lock down access or manipulate information.

  • Sustainability: The platform funds itself with a minimal fee, keeping the service accessible while incentivizing contributions.

  • Community Focus: Everyone has a voice in the project’s evolution.

The backend is nearly complete, but to truly shine, it needs a stunning, user-friendly frontend—and that’s where I’d love your help. As a backend engineer, I’m looking for skilled frontend developers to bring the vision to life.

So far not a lot of traction, sadly

I updated the website, check it out!

  • heavily changed the design
  • added login through Internet Identity (more auth providers coming in the future)

We have some new developers in the project and some discussions started happening in public. Makes me happy! decent-stuff · Discussions · GitHub

The token just got listed on KongSwap. Join the fun!

Great news to share!

Our team has recently expanded with several frontend and UI developers. This already shows in a much prettier and usable UI than a few weeks ago. This also means you’ll soon be able to accomplish almost every task directly in your browser—no need for specialized CLI tools.

In the meantime, we invite you to help secure our network by mining and validating the Decentralized Cloud Token (DCT). Detailed instructions are available here:

Remember, the more people who clone and validate the DC Blockchain, the safer it is for everyone! Earn DCT and help others!
