I have a question. If one day you stop operating Silos and no longer top up ICP for the Silos canisters, does that mean I will lose my files?
If Silos stops operating and no longer tops up ICP for its canisters, your files may become inaccessible or lost, as the canisters require ICP to maintain storage and computational resources on the Internet Computer blockchain.
Without ongoing $ICP funding, the canisters could halt or be reclaimed by the network, potentially resulting in data loss unless you’ve backed up your files elsewhere.
the reason @COOLLER I seek Collaboration for the longevity of SILOS as the killer app of Google Drive.
In that case, it wouldn’t be decentralized at all. Silos should generate revenue from other sources and automatically top up the canisters to ensure its own operation.
You didnt even buy subscription? You need domain 100%.
Anyways, this theoretically can work only if you have staked tokens that feed your canister. You can have donations and one time payment what you move into staking, you wont be profitable any time soon.
Mark location Africa, im afraid your app is gone as soon as you get any funding. To have serious project, you actually need to spend your own money at start to show your commitment. Good luck to you.
nice idea, lets Buidl. join me ![]()
This is really helpful @Henn91 Appreciate.
@Henn91 & @COOLLER Will implemented subscription and auto‑cycle‑top‑up system
-
Subscription Flow — Users or institutions subscribe to storage plans via Stripe or ICP payments. Each plan grants specific storage and collaboration limits.
-
Revenue Allocation — A defined portion (e.g., 10%) automatically goes to your ICP address for earnings. The rest stays in Silos’ operational pool.
-
Cycle Reserve — When Silos’ canister cycle balance drops below a threshold, the system automatically converts revenue to cycles and tops up, keeping the app alive indefinitely.
-
Smart Monitoring — An analytics panel tracks subscriptions, income, and cycle usage.
-
Autonomy — Silos funds its operations continuously from user payments, ensuring long‑term sustainability.
Thoughts on UI/UX? we could collaborate you know.
Cheers to Blissful New Year ![]()
