This is a reply to the Motion Proposal 134676: “Enhance the security features of the Internet Identity service by introducing a dedicated management device”

Thank you for bringing forward this thoughtful proposal.

We noticed that the proposal didn’t have a forum post or a place to discuss it with the community. Therefore, we are taking the liberty to start the discussion with this forum post.

The DFINITY team agrees with the problem statement and recognizes the importance of strengthening the security of Internet Identity, particularly around critical administrative actions.

Introducing a dedicated management device is a promising approach, and DFINITY will carefully evaluate its feasibility along with other potential strategies.

This topic is an ongoing discussion within the team, but more research into possible solutions is still needed and in progress.

We appreciate the initiative and the valuable feedback from the community. Let’s work together to ensure Internet Identity remains secure and user-friendly.

UPDATE: DFINITY rejected the proposal because more discussion is needed to reach the right solution to the problem.

Late update, but better than no update at all.

DFINITY decided to reject the proposal on the grounds that many people in the community already rejected it and the solution proposed needs more research and could not be the right solution to the problem.

However, as mentioned in the initial post, DFINITY team agrees with the problem and it will be taken care of in the future.
