Please improve the Motoko extension performances

The Motoko extension (for VS-code) is amazing in terms of features but it’s extremly slow on larger projects once you exceed a certain number of LOC and imports, my IDE takes 5 seconds to react on Type changes, most of my imported packages are either local or in .mops.

The issue is described in more details here: Performance issues with larger repos · Issue #388 · dfinity/vscode-motoko · GitHub

In terms of developer priorities, this is hands down my #1 Motoko-related pain point at the moment — I’m hoping it can get some attention. :folded_hands:

If others developers share my feedback, please shime in.

I was told by @rvanasa to make the issue because there is a grant currently issued for vscode extension improvements i believe. He should have better insight

Same. Definitely the most frustrating part of working with Motoko imo.

Yep. Would be great to have this fixed. That lag greatly breaks the working flow.

Thank you for bringing this up! We are looking into quick fixes to address this in the short term as well as larger optimizations that will take more time to implement.

We also want to start testing new optimizations on a wide range of real-world projects. Anyone who has a large public Motoko repository, please feel free to send a link for us to include in the list!
