There’s been a lot of silence in this forum regarding our introductory post, guys. Any feedback around here?

Do you believe there is value in a NATIVE ICP USD STABLECOIN built entirely on-chain and NNS-governed? This is our key question for DFINITY team members and the community here.

We are happy to open-source it to DFINITY members if they are interested at this very early stage.

Later open-sourcing is our planned path before passing control to the DAO-NNS, as we intended.

The first thing we need is help gathering feedback and refining the project. For example, the current landing page user interface could be more Aave-like — focused on clear actions — rather than too much informative as it is now. We understand the project still needs to mature. If we successfully pass the current experimental stage and gain DFINITY support, we would like to launch this product. We believe it is important for it to become a DAO-driven, NNS-governed project that can add real value to other pioneering projects such as multidex.ai, Oisy, and Liquidium.

The DeFi ecosystem on ICP is still in a very early stage. We need more builders and a clear supporting path to deliver proven market solutions that add value to the network.

In this project we have addressed major issues in stablecoin protocol models that are only possible thanks to the unique strengths of ICP architecture:

  1. The Treasury is self-protocol-governed and funds its own cycles spending.
  2. Oracles are fully on-chain, with a fallback off-chain consensus algorithm.
  3. Stability protocol based on Humans, Agents, and the Protocol itself.

Yes, this is a very early alpha version, but it is fully functional. You can:

What do I do with a motoko dollar? Buy governance tokens? I’m confused

Hello friend, thanks for asking!! no worries — the “what do I actually do with these?” question will be common as a new stablecoins project.

MotokoDollar (USDM) is a USD-pegged stablecoin. Its value is overcollateralized by assets like ICP, ckBTC, or ckETH that sit in vaults and provide the backing.

With MotokoDollars you can mainly do three useful things:

  1. The most interesting one (in our view) is looking for liquidation opportunities. When a vault’s collateral ratio drops to the 1.30 protocol ratio or lower, you can liquidate it — essentially using your MotokoDollars to cover the debt and seize the collateral (usually at a nice discount). That creates a real arbitrage/profit opportunity. If the ratio falls below 1, a Dutch auction starts. Humans, autonomous agents, or the protocol itself (drawing on any surplus MotokoDollars sitting in the treasury) can step in as the final safety net. Doing this actually helps keep the whole system stable and this is possible only because of the ICP full on/chain architecture we have developed.
  2. You can buy the governance token (MotokoMaker / MMK). If the protocol generates surplus beyond what it needs to keep running and stay stable, those dividends get distributed to the holders.
  3. Use it like any other stablecoin. If MotokoDollar gets enough attention and starts being accepted on other exchanges, it could work a lot like early DAI — a reliable on-chain USD equivalent you can hold or use to buy BTC and other crypto assets.

Why would someone want MotokoDollars if it’s implemented solidly and becomes fully DAO/governance-ready?

  • You get real arbitrage (profit) opportunities that are directly aligned with keeping the protocol healthy.
  • If the protocol succeeds, holding the governance token becomes a way to earn passive income while having a say in decisions (with built-in safety limits).

Right now we’re still in PLAYMODE, so only a few vaults exist. But as soon as any of them break the 1.30 ratio you’ll be able to liquidate them and grab the collateral.

We’re also working on a more action-oriented UI for the next version inspired by Aave and Uniswap, we know we have work to do and things to improve. Ps. You have an on-chain AI assistant that helps you to cover and get answer about how the protocol works.
