Node Providers - The Good Guys

Hi there

As there was a bit of a weird fog surrounding the whole node provider thing I have been digging in. This is a list of the Good Guys so far.

Basically if you are here, congratulations, you passed the “is a human and have no evidence of collusion” tests. This is more a list to reassure the community that it is just a few bad actors, the IC will be stronger as a result. I am by no means the only person that should be checking this, but it seemingly got a bit out of hand. I will update the IC wiki accordingly tomorrow.

I did tag all the forum names but computer said no so…

This is not an exhaustive list, I still have many more to dig into. There are also some relationships between node providers which I think need to be known, but aren’t harmful to the IC in anyway as long as the community knows that it could well be influenced by the same person. What the community as a whole decides to do with the existing node providers and new ones who may be related by blood or marriage is still to be determined.

I am just trying to shine a light on what I have found so far.

Thanks for putting so much work into this @Thyassa and @borovan.

Once you’re further along do you think you could share some details about the approaches you’ve used to inspect these NPs?

I think this is a really valuable distinction to be making. I’m interested to learn more about these scenarios. Answers to questions relating to this so far haven’t been forthcoming.

I have posted test edits to a couple of NPs on the official wiki as well as some typo fixes. We will see.

If 0x52 gets their forum name, node provider and some other info pushed then I will add more.

As long as they don’t get deleted I will happily share everything that I have used. Just don’t want to waste my time.

This is not a witch hunt on my part. I don’t want our NPs to be a source of weakness for the IC. We need to have absolute faith that people are acting in the best interests for the whole network. The rewards should be set up in a way to encourage that, but despite this being years old for some of us, the IC is really in it’s infancy and is a work in progress.

Great idea to share this list. Its always good to remember there are people actually doing their job as they should. Hats off to them.
