Proposal: ICP × TAO – Exploring a Decentralized AI Collaboration

I would like to put an idea forward to the ICP community:

Could we explore whether a technical collaboration between Internet Computer (ICP) and Bittensor (TAO) could be both technically feasible and strategically valuable?

TAO and ICP appear to complement each other in an interesting way.

Bittensor/TAO focuses on building a decentralized economy for AI models and subnets, rewarding participants for providing AI-related capabilities.

ICP, on the other hand, provides decentralized compute and cloud infrastructure that can host and run applications and AI workloads on-chain.

This creates a potentially powerful combination:

TAO = decentralized AI intelligence

ICP = decentralized infrastructure and application layer

A potential technical integration could explore whether TAO subnet models could be called from, integrated with, or eventually run through ICP canisters and infrastructure.

This could potentially create several benefits:

- Less reliance on centralized cloud providers

- A more complete decentralized AI stack

- New possibilities for AI agents and autonomous applications

- Additional use cases for ICP compute

- Access to the growing Bittensor AI ecosystem

- Potentially new users, developers and liquidity for both ecosystems

Important: There is currently no official ICP × TAO deal, as far as I know. This proposal is therefore not about an announced partnership, but about exploring the technical and strategic possibilities.

My proposal to the community is simple:

Let’s investigate whether ICP and Bittensor can be technically connected and whether a proof of concept could be feasible.

If the two ecosystems truly prove to be complementary, this could become an interesting step toward an open, decentralized AI infrastructure where TAO provides the intelligence and ICP provides the infrastructure on which that intelligence can be used.

What if an ICP canister could directly communicate with a Bittensor TAO subnet?

TAO provides a decentralized network of AI models and subnets. ICP provides on-chain canisters that can run applications and make HTTPS Outcalls.

A practical first step could be a Proof of Concept where an ICP canister sends a request to a TAO subnet and receives an AI response.

This would allow us to test latency, reliability, costs, security, and the overall feasibility of connecting the two ecosystems.

The goal is not to assume that full integration is possible, but to build and test a simple connection first.

If successful, this could give ICP developers access to decentralized AI capabilities while allowing TAO-based intelligence to be used directly by ICP applications and AI agents.

TAO provides the intelligence. ICP provides the canister and application layer.

Could an ICP × TAO Proof of Concept be worth exploring?

We already have direct Tao integrations with canisters able to sign and form transactions in TAO that has been live for sometime, what specific use case are you thinking of? Canisters can talk pretty well to TAO actually
