Missing Wikipedia Articles for IC and Dfinity

I was surprised today to learn there are no https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Computer or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DFINITY_Foundation Wikipedia articles. Both are mentioned in List of blockchains - Wikipedia, and Internet Computer redirected to Dfinity Foundation at one point, but the Dfinity Foundation article was deleted in 2022 Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dfinity - Wikipedia

The original article Dfinity - Wikipedia was indeed short, and the reasons for deletion were for lack of notability for a crypto Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) - Wikipedia along with the comment “only coverage seems to be about fundraisers, lacks depth.”

I think well maintained Wikipedia articles would go a long way in creating authority, validity, and educational value for both the IC and Dfinity. I understand there are rules regarding conflict of interest for organizations creating their own articles, so maybe reach out to someone not affiliated with Dfinity to create the article or articles, assist them with the content since it can be highly technical and important to get right, and help monitor it for accuracy in the future.

As a high market cap crypto with a mountain of technological achievements and industry firsts, I think the IC passes the bar for notability. With 15 billion pageviews per month, I think we’re missing a big opportunity, and Wikipedia users are missing some key information about the current crypto landscape.

Who are you expecting to maintain Wikipedia posts dfinity or community?

Dfinity as an organization is probably the most knowledgeable about what they’ve built, and best equipped to enumerate the features of their technologies, but there are conflict of interest rules on Wikipedia around who can author and maintain articles.

For instance, I cannot create an article on Taco Dao because I’m part of the team that created and maintains it, even though our team is the most knowledgeable about how it works. We’d need someone not affiliated with the team to create the article, and then suggest changes if the information is incorrect or incomplete.

To your question, I’d expect both the community and Dfinity to maintain the articles, just like every other organization that has a Wikipedia page

The Wiki police are a law unto themselves… They used to have issues with people editing articles about their own businesses. Not sure if that is resolved. Also hopefully it will be obsolete when a web3 version comes out…
