It's time to consider bringing Dom's Endorphin ICP OS idea back

You want mass adoption to come to ICP?

Just as this dude is doing with this Chinese smartphone startup to compete with Apple and Samsung and is already valued pretty much what ICP is but in record time:

Some dev team or DFINITY itself should consider pursuing putting ICP as a web3 blockchain O/S on a smartphone. Since it has a simplified secure stack with WASM and its own languages, we bypass the Apple store and the Google store and we have the ICP store.

The ICP dapp store will live on these Endorphin ICP OS smart phones and maybe we can use or even allow users to root older Android O/S phones to replace Android with in addition to having our own phones. Maybe you call up Carl Pei and tell him about ICP (dam it rhymes) and we make a deal with him to distribute the only true fully on chain web3 OS on his smart phones to the Gen Zers who don’t care about Apple or Samsung as he says?

Why do we do this?

Because then you have OpenChat as the standard messaging dapp. Then you have Taggr as the default Facebook/X competition. Then you have TRAX as the default music dapp. Then you have Caffeine A.I. built in. Then you have the NNS onchain wallet right there for people to utilize to make it easy to invest in real world assets and tokenized securities and to self custody and transfer their bitcoin, their eth, their whatever fast and practically free in a truly secure environment. Then you have Internet identity login with fingerprint directly on the phone lock screen etc.

Then you get people into this ecosystem and they will be ON ICP regularly because it is a WEB3 ICP PHONE….

Then they play Dragginz on their phone and utilize all their favorite ecosystem dapps, etc.

Hmmmm so many ideas and so little time. There is no excuse for ICP to not win this game. We must start thinking about how to win.

Good idea, but who will pay for it?

We have already all paid for it. We’re paying for it now eyeing a $3 ICP token back in the dumpster.

Newer ideas are not always the better ideas. No offense to Caffeine.

Sometimes the ideas we had before or at the start were truly the winners that we were talked out of pursuing. This was always a brilliant idea however the time wasn’t right because the underlying tech was still years away.

But now we have WASM64, now we have Internet Identity 2.0, now we have Chainfusion with Solana, now we have vetkeys, now we have lower latency, an improved NNS, ICP Ninja, Caffeine AI, improved Motoko, improved devops, la la la, the upcoming dapp store for Caffeine …and it keeps going.

As for Caffeine, unfortunately LLM’s have major limitations when it comes to vibe coding or reasoning in general for that matter. ICP Ninja therefore is ultimately more important than Caffeine A.I. will ever be esp. for serious, secure, and solid projects and esp. any projects that will ultimately need to handle large sums of user funds. Now I understand why DFINITY handicapped Caffeine to only use Stripe and not allow crypto payments and other tech (at least not yet). As per this brilliant analysis video, an LLM is essentially a prediction machine that works on probabilities “of what comes next” essentially. They almost never say “I don’t know” because they are rewarded to pretend they know everything when they certainly do not. And unfortunately depending on the training data used and if that is just the internet itself, you will end up with 95% of code being garbage as an example.

This is because our current LLM Transformer model is severely limited. These machines only do what is probable despite appearing to think and reason like Deepseek.

The Rise And Fall of Vibe Coding: The Reality of AI Slop

by Logically Answered. (EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS)

Therefore, we’ve already seen Caffeine go in circles down a rabbit hole when it can’t figure out how to fix its own code. We’ve already seen how it will never say “I don’t know”. We’ve already seen very inefficient AI Slop produced and I’m sure vulnerable canister code that is definitely not production ready nor will it possibly ever be without human intervention or another AI like Google’s analyzer to locate bugs and vulnerabilities in code.

ICP with its simplified stack does have a few plusses over the competition with orthogonal persistence and lack of needing and securing a database, data persistence with migration ability (if it works), among some other things.

Peronally as a developer I need to have a manual mode available which makes Caffeine unusable for me. I need to not only see the code, but be able to modify it when Caffeine produces trash which at the moment is very often. Maybe in 5 years from now, I will change my mind. This all depends on how skilled the trainers are and how quality the data is they are using to train it with.

Therefore ICP Ninja is the real story here imo. The direction of ICP Ninja with A.I. assist similar to how Preston’s ICP Studio with AI Assist will help make development in Motoko and Rust faster and more productive is key. Caffeine is a novelty for newbies wanting to build very simple dapps but not for serious projects looking to onboard tons of users and become a startup and have an actual impact on the platform’s burn. A.I. fully on chain will actually burn a lot but where are those 60+ projects mentioned earlier?

As for the future of Artificial Intelligence reasoning, there is a Singapore team Sapient Intelligence working on a new model of the brain called HRM (a hierarchical approach) that in combination with the Transformer LLM model may finally make vibe coding and reasoning in general much better as well as all generative A.I. This may bring us one step closer towards AGI and a better understanding of our brains beyond what we see today. Instead of going crazy with Trillion dollar scaling, DeepSeek and now Sapient are bringing us back to the drawing table to design better AI models capable of much more with way less which is great news for everyone.

https://venturebeat.com/ai/new-ai-architecture-delivers-100x-faster-reasoning-than-llms-with-just-1000-training-examples

Vibe coding will NEVER replace real programmers anytime soon or the need for real devs. Lets hope big tech doesn’t fumble the ball here and cause us to lose an entire generation of coders and people who truly understand what is going on. Esp. in crypto and with examples like Bob Bodily making multiple very costly errors on Odin dot fun, we must heed caution regarding getting lazy and letting A.I. do everything for us. For serious projects, everything the A.I. writes needs to be code reviewed and audited and you cannot assume it is giving you the 5% of well written code but instead the most probable 95% of the sloppy code that already exists.

That is a no. Apple and Google dominate the hardware industry. Even in China Apple has similar market share as Huawei. They control distribution in the West. The focus should always be the cloud. Caffeine is just an extension of that.

I’m not saying DFINITY needs to be in the mobile hardware space.

I’m saying you have a free mobile O/S for anyone willing to run it on their compatible mobile device similar to Android but much more simplified running web3 cloud in a secure fashion.

I guess it would be akin to how Google has Chrome O/S and you can run this on a myriad of devices i.e. chromebooks etc.

If a startup has the hardware, they would now have the only fully on chain crypto cloud web3 O/S in existence as a selling point…

It kind of makes sense in terms of the end result.

SECURE WEB3 from end to end.

I am just saying this has hacker vibes which is fine but distribution is the most important thing. Apple and Google have distribution. Just sounds like a very niche market. No one is going to replace their OS with Endorphin. Most people just want to look up memes on their phones. I think we need to focus on AI tooling for devs and bringing more apps to the interface that won which is the web browser. From there obvs Apple and Google gardens.

I remember Zcash doing the same thing. They spent years on never building an official Apple and Google wallet. The price was in the dumpster fire. Then Zashi came along, Zcash now has a greater market cap than ICP. They just stayed true to their mission. The only charge was the distribution within Apple garden and obvs people started noticing how privacy is important, specially for a storage of wealth.

What DFINITY has ultimately built here is a distributed operating system utilizing blockchain.

If they made a deal with a phone maker like the guy I mentioned above and that company decided to utilize this as an option for endusers or even if we purchased a lot of them and installed it making it available for anyone wanting a true fully on chain web3 phone, it would hype ICP to the moon just like Solana did with the dud of a Solana phone they made.

But actually it would be the ultimate showpiece to showcase everything ICP and all of its tech on an enduser device.

But it’s just a thought for now.

You’re right that the AI fully on chain narrative with gpu subnets is more important as is ICP Ninja.

Caffeine A.I. may or may not be a hit. It’s a nice novelty for now but the ultimate goal is supporting projects to come build on ICP and esp. enterprises to migrate their antiquated software systems to ICP. There is no reason, for example that car companies and airlines cannot utilize ICP.

Car dealers, etc. Banks. Everyone who has already suffered hacks. Regional banks, etc.

Endorphin comes later down the road after DFINITY has proven that they can convince people to come build and host here for their own benefit.

Haha you lack vision bro.

Badland is what ICP currently is.

The only difference is that it will be renamed Badland when there will be law friction with Dfinity and the NNS will oppose compliance. Then Dfinity jump out of the boat and just adopt another sticker and continue building on this other sticker where they have ( again ? ) most voting power.

End of story.

I challenge you to prove me wrong.

Actually the “Badlands” idea as a project launching upon the internet computer as a “sister network” could be quite the interesting experiment.

It directly addresses people who complain about the high cost and requirements of becoming a node provider as well as complaining about how we are not decentralized enough and should be run more like a wild west Ethereum. The problem with it: bad actors in crypto and there are a lot of them.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, DOM wrote this up around the time of Genesis and around the same time as his Endorphin OS idea.

Essentially the idea is to allow anyone to run a low cost, low barrier to entry “wild west node” on devices even as small as a Raspberry pi and have “People’s Parties” to onboard additional nodes.

The caveat being this part of the network would not be as secure, be much slower, have uptime issues possibly depending on these providers, etc.

Thus being labelled the ICP “Badlands”…. proceed with caution once you enter “the hood” of ICP.

THE ICP TIMELINE from Dfinity side

  1. Selling ICP
  2. Create for profit company and praise the success of the the for profit company without mentioning its was powered by ICP believer nor rewarding them
  3. Expend
  4. Get some friction with compliance
  5. NNS vote “NO” and Dfinity want YES
  6. Dfinity jump out of the ship and create NNS2, Original NNS and ICP is rebranded “BadLand”
  7. Dfinity double reward for nodes for NNS2 compared to NNS1 ( = Badland) and suck NNS1 ( = Badland) out of Nodes
  8. Badland is branded as a great success and great opportunity for low cost node and great decentralisation benefits.

End of story.

I challenge you to prove me wrong, why wouldnt it happen ?
