Internet Identity V2

I have a good idea. Considering the frequent incidents of token theft caused by clipboard tampering in the crypto world, could we use the anchor number as the receiving token address for NNS? In this way, I don’t have to check each letter, only the numbers need to be compared/input. From a technical perspective, is this feasible? thank you!

NNS and Internet Identity are different projects. The NNS Dapp is not aware of the identity numbers nor should they. This is important to keep the privacy among applications.

Internet Identity provides a different identification for each application. That means that the identification in Open Chat is different than the one in NNS Dapp even thuogh I use the same identity to sign in.

This feature ensures privacy and avoids tracking of users across applications.

Will IDgeek still be able to work if there is no anchor?

I like this as a concept… But..

What if advertising companies want to track users across domains to serve more relevant advertisements? Or is that just a web2 concept that should get tossed?

Perhaps I sign into a new platform with my same II, an option is presented for if I want apps to track my activity between apps, sort of like iPhone? Or, it’s an auto-opt in/out in the II website settings and can be controlled per canister domain? Because remember, relevant ads mean more revenue for companies looking to survive on the IC.

I wouldn’t mind settings on the II website to control those kinds of settings :man_shrugging: Or would you at the end of the day give it to the dapp canisters to share data with each other for relevant ads?

That’s an interesting idea, but privacy is one of the core features of Internet Identity.

That said, the idea of allowing apps to track you in exchange for something could be interesting. But there are no plans to look into this yet.

So, Caffeine AI is releasing and I see it only uses II v2. I come from II v1, and I also use II v1 for very important dapps like KongSwap and the NNS. I know the goal is to move on to id.ai for the NNS, so where is the migration mechanism so I don’t lose my ICP whenever the NNS migration to II v2 happens? Also, I think the migration flow should be embedded into the II v2 interface because there’s a lot of us that have to onboard to it.

Given the decentralized nature of II, we can’t do the identity migration on behalf of users, instead they’ll have to actively do this migration themselves.

In practice this means that the migration path will indeed be built into II 2.0, since we can’t predict when users will migrate.

There no plans at this moment to switch other platforms to II 2.0 until it has at least reached feature parity with 1.0 and supports migration.

Nice. Hopefully that happens within the next few weeks. I don’t like logging into v2 and it asking me to make a whole new identity as if the others’ obsolete. It should be completely seamless but I understand if that was difficult.

TBF, still insane that it requires biometrics or google… the perfect way to exclude specifically the tech audience interested in this project.

Interesting opinion. Opposite to what you think, I’d expect the tech savvy users to know what passkeys and biometrics are and actively use these as they are much better options than, say, passwords.

I agree with @georgi, I personally like the biometrics of II as it’s as unique of information that I can provide. Passkeys are the 2025 standard, as we should just assume user/password pairs are at the very least if not brute-force-able, definitely not quantum-safe.

Quantum-safe identification though is an entirely new discussion. For now I just want more color on the II v2 screen and a safe migration mechanism for whenever the NNS and other apps like Oisy (with real money attached to principal IDs) convert to II v2. ICP’s infinity colors, I don’t know how they didn’t make it into ID.ai’s website design.

I’m sure they’re gonna make it look much better than the current version, right?

Well considering how II used to be light themed with the colors, then they switched to some incomplete dark theme, and now all the colors are gone. It looks like they’re trying to strip away the iconic color scheme which added so much to the user experience.

I don’t understand what was so bad about it that made them change it, and I definitely don’t have enough voting power to propose a better design or even the idea of the user choosing their own themes.
