with 0.10.0, a new release came out that makes generating did for rust a lot easier.

Yes you can now generate the did from Rust without workaround but, it needs an additional script / call to wastime afterwards. Ultimately I understand the goal is to make all automatic. I wrote a post about last improvements and current state, hope that helps:

it’s not yet fully integrated to dfx but already simplifies things a lot.
