IC News is a decentralized, on-chain news platform built on the Internet Computer (ICP). Our mission is to enhance transparency and trust in journalism through blockchain technology. By integrating community governance, token incentives, and comprehensive on-chain data storage, IC News enables users to collaboratively build a censorship-resistant and community-driven news ecosystem.

How It Works

  • News Providers – Share news articles and updates directly on the platform. Providers earn News tokens based on engagement (views, shares, and comments).
  • Subscribers – Use News tokens to subscribe to trusted providers and access personalized content.
  • Voting & Governance – Community members vote on news sources, platform improvements, and new features via decentralized governance.
  • On-Chain Commenting – Comments are recorded on-chain to verify authenticity and preserve transparency.

News Tokens and Incentives

  • Token Rewards – News providers and content creators earn News tokens based on engagement.
  • Ad Revenue Sharing – Advertisement revenue is shared with users to support ecosystem growth.
  • Subscription Services – Premium content can be accessed via News token subscriptions.

Data Storage and Security

  • Layered Storage Architecture – Original content is securely stored on-chain, with SNS DAO managing all data canisters. User interactions (browsing, commenting, and sharing) are also recorded on-chain.
  • Decentralized Content Storage – Content is stored in decentralized canisters and governed by SNS DAO to ensure security and transparency.

2025 Q3 – Expansion Phase

Goal: Enhance platform functionality, integrate AI, and explore monetization. Release v1.1

  • Tasks:
    • Launch ic.news API and complete API documentation
    • Deploy AI-driven personalized recommendation system
    • Support multi-language content
    • Conduct UI/UX deep optimization
    • Introduce initial monetization models (Subscriptions, Ads, NFT-based paid content)
    • Integrate ICP wallet support

2025 Q4 – Multi-Platform Support

Goal: Expand platform reach across multiple devices & ecosystems. Release v1.2

    • Enhance social interaction features (User profiles & social graph)
    • Integrate with decentralized social media platforms (OpenChat, Taggr, etc.)

2026 Q1-Q3 – Ecosystem Phase

Goal: Strengthen decentralization & governance framework, forming an ICP-powered news ecosystem. Release v2.0

    • Enhance SNS DAO governance (Expand custom SNS DAO functionalities to achieve full community governance through SNS DAO)
    • Decentralized news verification mechanism (Implement community-driven fact-checking and credibility scoring)
    • Contributor reputation system (Develop an identity verification and trust-based scoring model for news providers)
    • Advanced content ranking algorithms (Integrate decentralized voting to determine content visibility and prioritization)

2026 Q4 - 2027 Q2 – Mobile & Desktop Expansion

  • Develop mobile app (iOS & Android)
  • Develop desktop client (Windows & macOS)
    • Offline reading mode (Cache the latest 1,000 news articles with encrypted storage)
    • Multi-device sync (Sync reading progress & subscriptions via ICP accounts)
    • Local data storage (News content indexing based on ICP on-chain data + local cache)

2027 Q3 - 2028 – AI Integration & Global Expansion

  • Launch IC NEWS Community Fund to incentivize high-quality news contributors
  • Develop AI-driven deep news analysis
  • Introduce AI-generated news summaries & smart voice broadcasting
  • Incorporate DeFi economic model (News Token-based incentives)

Proposed Token Distribution

Total Supply: 10 Billion News Tokens

Initial Distribution at SNS Swap:

  • 55%: DAO Treasury
  • 30%: Decentralization Swap
  • 15%: IC News Team

  • Minimum ICP to Raise: 10,000 ICP
  • Maximum ICP to Raise: 190,000 ICP (Without NF)
  • Minimum per Swapper: 1 ICP
  • Maximum per Swapper: 20,000 ICP
  • SNS Swap Period: 9 days
  • Ledger Transaction Fee: 1 News Token
Allocation % Token Amounts Vesting Period
DAO Treasury 55 5,500,000,000 The DAO Treasury allocation will be used to add liquidity and support future platform rewards, such as earning News tokens based on user interactions.
SNS Swap 30 3,000,000,000 SNS Swap participants will receive four equally valued neurons with Dissolve Delays of 0, 6, 12, and 18 months.
IC News Team 15 1,500,000,000 The IC News team will receive five equally valued neurons with Dissolve Delays of 9, 14, 19, 24, and 29 months.

the following is inconsistent with the sns_init.yaml where maximum_participant_icp: 20_000 tokens is specified.

Next to that i want to point out that the project does make use of the neuron fund, this can be interpreted in different ways:

  2. Thank you! Just to clarify, the IC News project does leverage the Neuron Fund (NF). The ‘Maximum ICP to Raise: 190,000 ICP (Without NF)’ refers to the amount excluding NF’s commitment. We’ve seen many projects use this notation.
