ICGold v1.0: cycle mining on the Internet Computer (starts Oct 9, 19:00 UTC)

ICGold v1.0 released

Announcing the first release of ICGold, a mining protocol for the Internet
Computer in which miners burn cycles, and so ICP, to win blocks. Built in Rust. It runs
entirely in canisters, with no presale and no investor allocation.

See https://icgprotocol.com /

The ICG ledger is nuw4q-5iaaa-aaaad-qmhhq-cai. Any other ICG is not this one.

  • Open icgprotocol.com and connect Internet Identity, OISY or NFID Wallet
  • Join the shared pool from 0.1 ICP, or create your own miner for about
    ~ 2.5 ICP
  • Your share of each block is your share of the cycles burned in that round and your ticket for ICG

If you stake the ICG you mine, you also share in what miners pay: 42% of
every ICP deposit goes to ICG stakers, in ICP.

The protocol is new and has not had an external audit yet.

Mining starts 09.10.2026 at 19:00 UTC. No one can mine before then, myself included. At the start few miners compete, so the first blocks are cheap to win. It will get harder as
more people burn cycles.

Every ICP deposit is split: 40% is converted to cycles, which burns that ICP,
and the cycles are burned for mining; 42% is paid to ICG stakers; 15% goes to
a reserve that adds liquidity on ICPSwap and later buys and burns ICG; 3%
keeps the canisters supplied with cycles and

Total circulation will stay under 21,000,000 ICG. It is issued to miners as
blocks are found, about one every ten minutes, with the reward cut in half
every 210,000 blocks, about every 4 years.

first 4 years: 10,500,000 ICG
next 4 years: 5,250,000 ICG
next 4 years: 2,625,000 ICG
next 4 years: 1,312,500 ICG
etc…

Block 0 records 50 ICG that are never minted.

As the block reward shrinks, stakers keep earning the ICP that miners pay,
and the reserve keeps buying and burning ICG.
