# RTS error: Cannot grow memory

When I upload a large amount of data to my test container, I execute the update container code and prompt: RTS error: Cannot grow memory

Canisters currently have a hard limit of 12 (or was it 8?) GB of stable storage and 4GB of non-stable storage. It sounds to me like you’re hitting one of those limits. The typical solution for this is to scale out into multiple canisters to store all that data.
