I think that the “political” or rather “apolitical” stance of the foundation is relevant in order to support itself in the new air of change that is beginning to be breathed in the American continent and will surely reach the entire West.
Since the beginning of this project I have seen certain political stances on climate change or political agreements with “undemocratic” organizations such as the UN, which can be classified as woke.
Is Dfinity woke?
What is Dfinity’s strategy to approach the US ecosystem and the Trump administration?
Could you please define terms such as ‘woke’ since they are used very loosely by some to mean many different things. And could you be more specific on what you are looking for, these seem like broad statements such as ‘US ecosystem’?
When you ask is DFINITY a woke organization? What is your definition of “Woke”? Please elaborate more…
The concept of wokeness can be traced back to the civil rights movements of the 1960s, where activists emphasized the importance of being aware of societal injustices
This term “woke”, has evolved significantly since its inception. Originally derived from African American Vernacular English, the word “woke” referred to a heightened awareness of social injustices, particularly those related to race and inequality. The phrase gained prominence especially within the context of social movements such as Black Lives Matter, which sought to address systemic racism and advocate for civil rights.
On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it is essential to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy and his commitment to equality and justice for all people. Dr. King advocated for a society where individuals would be judged by their character rather than their skin color; a vision that aligns closely with the principles of wokeness as it seeks to promote equity.
Instead of framing the conversation around whether an organization is “woke” or not, we should focus on building communities that prioritize equity and provide opportunities for all individuals
In today’s inauguration address, President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of realizing Martin Luther King’s dream of equity. He highlighted the need for unity among Americans to ensure that everyone has a fair chance at success. Trump’s remarks underscored a commitment to fostering an environment where diversity is celebrated and where systemic barriers are dismantled.
Just like President Trump vow to make Dr. King’s dream come true, wokeness is fundamentally about recognizing and addressing inequalities that exist within society. It emphasizes the need for individuals and organizations to be conscious of their roles in perpetuating or dismantling these inequities. The focus on equity means striving for fairness in opportunities and resources for all individuals, regardless of their background.
By focusing on shared goals rather than divisive labels like “woke,” we can work towards creating inclusive communities that embody the principles of equity championed by leaders like Martin Luther King Jr.
As we reflect on these themes today, let us strive to engage in constructive dialogue about equity without falling prey to politicized narratives that seek to undermine our collective progress. Building a community rooted in fairness and opportunity for all should be our primary objective.
I think we (and that include Dfinity) are all building a decentralized future where everyone can contribute and benefit. So the question of wokeness (who is the capture of a certain discourse by a minority) is not as relevant in my mind.
As for climate change - let’s focus on the science and the data.
Are you asking if Dfinity is a " democrat " living in a Trump world?
While I understand your curiosity regarding the definition of a woman, I prefer not to engage in this conversation as it often leads to back-and-forth debates that may not be productive or meaningful in the context of developing software or fostering development in the IC ecosystem.
It’s crucial to differentiate between discussions about sexual orientation, and broader conversations about equality and social justice that relate to wokeness of which is what you were concerned about. I believe your definition of wokeness is different from mine and that is totally okay. These topics can sometimes intersect but are fundamentally distinct in their implications and contexts.
This forum is more about the IC ecosystem and software development, and as such the primary goal of conversations should be to create inclusive technologies that respect all individuals’ identities without getting entangled in potentially contentious definitions or debates.
Hey folks, I appreciate that this thread hasn’t devolved into namecalling (yet?).
TBH I don’t see much benefit from even trying to answer this question, and I don’t know who could speak ‘for DFINITY’ on these questions that I can just ping to answer here. Assuming the question is in good faith it is possible to posture in a number of ways, but ultimately it matters what DFINITY (or the people that work at DFINITY) does. And if the question is in bad faith (not trying to imply you’re speaking in bad faith, but there are enough people on the forum to assume that it’s likely to be interpreted that way by at least some folks), then it’s better to just keep quiet and not provoke a shitshow of people insulting each other.
This forum is mostly supposed to be a developer forum, so I would propose that we try to stick with more technical topics, or maybe how specific issues could be addressed on ICP. Since we’re in blockchain land I am thinking of things like accessibility, or information access.
