This is a major issue I believe. I have heard from several people who are heavily involved in the IC that once they started developing, the hubs essentially arent interested unless they have a vested interest.

More focus ahould be put on supporting developers when they come across hurdles. This doea noy need to be financial. Non financial action such as advocating for features to remove blockers, putting teams in contact with others who have faces similar obstacles etc would be invaluable.

On another note, it was my understanding that hubs were a community resource and not meant to be a profitable business model. Maybe I misunderstood.

Without naming names, some hubs do a fantastic job of really being there for everyone. Others seem to behave more like a vc firm that will only provide assistance in return for a % of the project. That seems to be exploitation rather than assistance…

I am heading to Zurich soon and one of the topics I hope to raise with the foundation is exactly this.

When we first heard about ICP through the hub network(ICP UAE) two years ago it was understood that hubs work in an education and awareness role. They don’t have funds under management. Furthermore, it depends on the region they work in and ICP’s presence. For example, in Egypt, there are less than 20 ICP devs, onboarded through our EIR program or paid educational internships. So in regions where there is no presence, you have to build a know how foundation first baked into the ecosystem. The hubs I believe are structured based on maturity and ICP’s penetration in each area. I do know that more mature regions where you have already devs and projects often host x-spaces with projects; just recently listened in to ICP Italy and an agricultural AI used in insurance, seemed pretty cool.

Hey Badri,

Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback and for your dedication as an ICP HUB Germany ambassador. We truly value your perspective and commitment to the Internet Computer (ICP) community. However, we’d like to address your concerns with clarity and set the record straight, as some of your assumptions are based on misunderstandings and wrong information.

Regarding the 90,000+ livestream viewers, there seems to be confusion about how X reports views, and we want to clarify this. Unlike audio-only X Spaces, which show real-time concurrent listeners (fluctuating and often bot-influenced), video livestream counts unique views—each time someone opens the video, even briefly, it’s recorded as one view. We deliberately switched to video to avoid bot interference and ensure authenticity. The 90,000+ views reflect real people engaging with the 9.5-hour Townhall, not concurrent viewers (amount of viewers connected at the same time). This approach aligns with our goal of transparency and genuine reach, and we hope this explains why your assumption about inflated metrics doesn’t hold.

On the credibility gap and allegations about HUBs, we’re disheartened to hear this perception. The ICP HUBs program is the most successful Web3 initiative of its kind, with 22 HUBs globally fostering innovation and adoption—something other Web3 ecosystems are now trying to emulate/copy.

Unaddressed allegations are serious, and we invite you to share specifics so we can investigate transparently. However, broad claims without evidence risk sowing confusion rather than unity, which is vital for our community’s strength compared to what other communities do in other Web3 ecosystems.

Regarding funding imbalances, the amounts HUBs allocate to ambassadors are decided autonomously based on the value each ambassador brings to their region. Your work in Germany is commendable, and we’re proud of the impact made with modest budgets.

However, the claim that other HUBs receive “millions of dollars” is incorrect. You may be referring to early discussions about the Olympus program, which was announced but never launched due to internal decisions. No such funds were ever distributed, so the assumption that other regions received millions is also a mistaken one.

It is saddened to see community members question the HUBs’ efforts based on misinformation and false perspectives, especially when their work drives real impact globally. The Townhall’s success was due to two months of preparation, 22 HUBs being involved, and organic promotion (e.g., Mario Nawfal’s support). Which reflects a united community effort.

Rather than creating division, we encourage constructive dialogue to strengthen ICP, like other Web3 communities do.

Let’s work together to keep the ICP community thriving, not to divide it! We need unity not division! But thank you so much anyway for your passion.

Take Care

I dont think i still need to explain anything- hope u understand it now.

Dear Badri,

Thank you for your continued engagement and for sharing your perspective. I understand there may be some confusion regarding the viewer count metrics, and I’d like to clarify the distinction between X Spaces with Video and Live Video Streaming via Streamyard on X, as they operate differently.

In our case, we are using Live Video Streaming via Streamyard on X for events like the ICP TownHall. As we’ve observed, the view count during these streams only increases, reflecting the total number of unique viewers who have tuned in at any point, rather than the concurrent viewers shown in real-time for X Spaces (audio or video). This aligns with how X displays total views for live video streams, especially post-event when replays are included, as noted in resources like Streamyard’s Help Center.

Regarding your concern about inflating viewer numbers, I assure you that our goal is not to manipulate metrics. Our mission is to showcase the ICP ecosystem and the passion behind it, and we rely on X and Streamyard’s built-in analytics to report viewership transparently. These platforms automatically track and display viewer counts, and we don’t have the ability to artificially alter those numbers. If you have insights into how such inflation could occur, we’d be happy to explore this further to ensure clarity and accuracy.

We truly value your feedback and are committed to maintaining transparency in our events. If you have additional questions or suggestions about how we can improve our streams, please feel free to share!

Hey, I appreciate getting quicker responses – that’s great to see.

Of course, I’m aware there’s a difference between X Spaces and X Livestream.

When an account is live and the live badge shows “89k,” that means 89,000 people are watching live at that moment.

That said, I’m still open to taking a look at the livestream analytics—no hate or negativity intended here.

It shouldn’t be a problem to do the following:

  1. Reveal your follower statistics.
    (@icphubs)

  2. Reveal your livestream statistics – the ones you mentioned earlier.

Once both of these are made transparent and everything checks out as legit, I’m absolutely open to either deleting or editing the forum post.
